Quite apart from the reasons mentioned by Simon, we should be boycotting Qatar because of the many deaths and terrible conditions suffered by the construction workers at the stadiums.
Qatar, and indirectly FIFA, can only afford a Qatar world cup because of this ultra cheap treatment of workers.
It reassuring that three quarters of respondents to the poll support a boycott. How could anybody with a conscience attend Qatar 2022?

Simon - you should be ashamed to put your name to such rubbish. get back to some real journalism and football stories.

Boycotting the world cup is a good idea but Australia cannot lead the group. You need the European heavyweights to go down this route and Australia will follow. It will be a huge shame, but I don't think it would harm the game in the long term as everyone can see that the whole tender process was corrupt. International football can keep going by having the confederation tournaments played in place of the world cup for 2022.
I am all for giving different countries a chance to host the world cup but the whole process has to be fully transparent (e.g. state well ahead (15-20) that a world cup in the future will be played at a different time of year to give other countries a chance to host).
How do we get rid of all these corrupt FIFA officials that are ruining our game?

I'm sorry, but to think that Australian football and it's governing body is a heavyweight and has this much sway to lead a boycott in the world game is quite frankly ludicrous. Soccer(football) isn't even in the top 3 sports in Australia, let alone the rest of the world.

    crazy talk

Yes we know fifa is dodgy and corrupt. Yes they done wrong by us in this instance. cost us 40 million

But on the other hand they have done australia a favour by moving us into Asia. We are almost guaranteed to always qualify for world cups as long as we qualify through asia.

So risk boycotting 2022 and watch what happens.

Boycotting could be detrimental to Australia post 2022. FIFA is a currupt organisation as we now know, so whos to say they won't punish us unfairly in the future.
