Hi, Tan...I've read your blog and the first thing that comes to mind are the examples you gave of the families sharing the pot . If these people are not ashamed of what they are doing, then why did they get upset that you posted their habits?? The world is full of dirty little secrets. I was appalled at their behavior, by the way.

On the other hand, I have mixed feelings as you do. Would we have a legal age for use like drinking? Not that that stops anybody. If we spent the money we now spend on trying to stop it on regulating it's growth and purity, that would help? It would not stop the importation of illegal drugs from other countries...tariffs and so on would be so high....they'd continue smuggling or just change to a different drug. So we'd still have that expense for a while.

It's not hard to grow...so if we each grew our own...that wouldn't be regulated so who would know what was in it? But then folks today are smoking and sniffing so much bizarre stuff, it's a wonder we don't have more zombie dead heads walking around.

I don't think smoking pot necessarily leads to harder drugs and so on. I think it's the person...how badly does s/he need to escape from reality? Fear of life. If we spend some of the money on mental health and stop sweeping it under the carpet like we do in this country, that might help. There are SO MANY fearful times in life...growing up..."launching"....divorce...etc. No matter how hard you try as a parent, there's bound to be something...that's why I like the expression: "If you had parents, you have issues." I also like, "If you have no baggage, you have no story to tell."

I guess bottom line is to legalize it...with all the ducks in a row before we do...and see what happens. After the initial "YEAH...WOW!"...see what shakes out. Maybe since it will be legal and we can grow our own it will cut down on the other drugs necessary for a high...lots of people are satisfied with beer and don't need whiskey...cut down on heroin, cocaine, crack and so on.

    It's a scary world...pj
