Should ID be required for food stamp purchases?

    It's a nice idea, but recipients already have to show ID and be fingerprinted to get the EBT card in the first place, and stores that accept it are responsible to ensure that only eligible items are purchased with the card.

    The only scandal I know about involving EBT benefits was where a bad computer entry by a government worker resulted in everyone in that state having too much value on their cards. If that happens it is not the recipients' fault. Just zero out the part of the windfall that hasn't been spent yet and carry on.
