Is Mike Pettine the right head coach for the Browns?

No one, absolutely no one with coaching vacancies even had this guy on their list of candidates to interview. not the Vikings, Lions, Titans, Redskins, or Texans. Are the Browns all of a sudden talent gurus?

The big mistake was last year when we didn't go after Bruce Arians. He was only the 2012 Coach of the Year, guided the colts to a 9-3 record (after just joining them as their OC) when he was named interim head coach after Pagano's cancer diagnosis.By the way, the Colts had only 2 wins the year before. He had 19 years NFL experience, was a head coach in the college ranks and was with the Browns from 2001-2003 as our OC. I am not a Monday morning quarterback about this. I went on record in a sports blog I was writing at the time and publicly made my choice known to all my friends and family.

But if Pettine was such a great candidate with impeccable credentials and offered references from other league sources, why did the other 5 teams ignore him and even the Browns went his way only after their top two guys wouldn't even consider this opportunity? Think about it. Only 32 Professional Head Coaching Jobs in the NFL exist in the whole entire world, and Gase and McDaniels basically said, No thanks, don't call us, we'll call you. Why wasn't the Lombardi that Haslem hired more like Vince?
