"When President Franklin D. Roosevelt first created the minimum wage in 1938, it was 25 cents. Adjusted for inflation, that would be worth $4.07 today.

The minimum wage had its lowest buying power in 1948, when it was worth about $3.81 in today's dollars. It had its highest buying power in 1968, when it was worth about $10.56.

At $7.25 in 2012, our current minimum wage is in the middle of those two extremes.

President Obama's proposal to raise the minimum wage to $9 would put it back to a value last seen in the early 1980s." ....

I really don't understand the comments you're receiving saying "Why should we help them, nobody helped us." "Why should we pay for their mistakes." Every one of us eats fast food. We rely on these people to serve us but we don't want them to "get ahead" doing it. The minimum wage should be at $10 per hour simply because of inflation. This would make the playing ground FAIR. Nobody will be "getting ahead" on a $10 minimum wage. They will just be surviving with a little less stress.

BTW: I started at $7 per hour - High School Dropout//GED - No Police Record (just by luck)

Why should minimum wage be raised for the people that have made bad decisions in their lifes? I made $8 dollars an hour over night @ Grocers Supply while going to college full time during the day to get my associates degree. Nobody helped me, why should we help the people that are just lazy and have made by choices
