Leaving the plebs game for the kings game, wise move. It's nice that league filter the talent for rugby

He's achieved nothing in league, other than a deserved place as probably the most overrated player in the NRL. If he wants to go and try to win something in what is still comparatively a very amateur code, then do so. Or he could try and win a bit of respect and try to achieve something in league, in particular for his country, which is probably where he's needed most.

Sydney & the NRL has embraced Sam & his clan for the past couple of seasons. It's a matter of respect to his fans, his current code and the Competition proper. Potentially becoming a dual-code International is quite an accomplishment, but remember you will always be judged on your deeds, both, on and off the field.

England need all the help they can get, they just lost to France. if Sam thinks he's all over the 80 or so more rules and has a chance in the back of the scrum then I'd love to see it. injuries and 'brain snaps' are always going to hamper his actual potential.
how about move your whole family around the world just to move back home 1 year later, smart cookie!

Australaisa is barely 22m people. League may be a better game than both Soccer and Rugby but the the tide against it is irreversible. The money and numbers increasingly coming into Rugby through RWC, HSBC World 7s and soon the Olympic etc will increasingly render League a feeder sport to Rugby. Leagues biggest names see that.

Look after no1 , but never burn your bridges

Yes! Sam burgess is going to be fantastic at union. Plus union is a much popular sport then rugby league. He's making the right choice as he is an English man where the heart of RUGBY UNION is at, so he'll fit right into it with the speed and fitness hes got. Can not wait to see him playing at rwc 2015!!!

A beat up to improve his contract, which he deserves. Anyway, why would he want to live in some depressing hell hole like Leicester, Newcastle or Northampton playing collapsing scrums when he can live in Sydney on better pay and conditions.

Why whold he leave the game who he is known by everyone to rugby union who he is known by knowone.

Overrated just like SBW bye bye

You people don't understand the mind of a pro athlete...u want to exceed at the highest level in all you do...if he fails he pays the price simple...money's not an issue cause he's minted as it is

I don't have sour grapes but he is a contracted player to Souths until 2016 and should be made to meet his obligations........... Can someone please explain to me what a contract is these days and why sign them if they are not enforced.
Now for the other comments in here knocking Sam - he is very good for the NRL and Souths and brings people to the games and that's what we all should be looking at not childish comments.

He's not that goo a player anyway! He came to win a comp and won't! He's a very dirty player too and played his best football at Souths so this year h should use the injury excuse again and of course be suspended for dirty play. He could've been such a great player too but...............

Good. Piss him off, he's a grub. Probably just a ploy to get more cash anyway.

  • Rugger - 10 years ago

Well its them or hairy Sam Thaiday.

    Not much changes mate.

  • Lee - 10 years ago

Ha ha!! Those big hairy Welsh props!! Awesome athletes!! Imagine Sam against those cranks. Ooof!!

  • Rugger - 10 years ago

Do you mean kick and clap or five tackles and kick.

He wants to play in real world cup and to packed crowds.

Not a difficult choice I suggest

  • Lee - 10 years ago

He would be wasted in union. Too many big goons with hands like feet in the 15 man game!!! #kick and clap

  • Nuri shik - 10 years ago

If Sam can help souths win the grand final in 2015,
Then south should reward him the leave ,only if he comes back to pay out the extra year" later on"

He would fit right in to rugby with his squirrel gripping antics

  • brent - 10 years ago

who cares! rugby league is the best sport in the world... with or without these show-ponies(sbw,s burgess, folau etc.

  • Kev - 10 years ago

Let him go. He is only trying to increase his worth by suggesting Rugby. We have plenty of good aussie players to fill the void. Take your brother with you sam

  • Paul - 10 years ago

He should try giving the Rabbits a season without injury and suspension before he asks for anything.
