Who did a better job, MacTavish or Tambellini?

The players MacTavish has acquired are - overall - better than the ones he replaced. Although, I'm not sure whether he "stole" Perron from St. Louis, as some are praising him for doing, or that turned out to be more luck than anything, because they were trying to unload him. Like, did Calgary steal Smid from the Oilers, or was he just being unloaded for some bodies that no longer fit Calgary's needs.
But, what about MacTavish's choice of coach and assistant coaches? How can he not be held accountable, when what should be an improved team in fact sinks to a lower level than in previous years, with so many players performing below par? Is this the right coaching staff for this collection of players/individuals? And how we he know? Without the year of Pronger, his coaching record would have been more obvious - not impressive.
