Being born at Southport hospital in 1973 and knowing first hand the troubles of trying to support my family who all want to stay here forever, i worry about there future, if there will be a job here for them, a few gold fish wont put food on the table, the spit is a waste of prime land that should be developed, create some jobs, build the cruise terminal, and casino, build one at the spit and one down Kirra, Surfing coffee drinking greenies dont have to worry about feeding there family, they just get government handouts!

Ive dived the seaway for years. Ive seen it all . This place is so special. 490 different variety of marine life. Native fauna. Pet friendly. Great for the kids. I see buss loads of tourist busses that visit it, that means its on thier map i quess thats because its such a beautiful place. Surfers, fisherman, boaters, snorklers, scuba divers, jet ski's, swimmers. Ive seen dolphins, whales, turtle, beautiful birds, car rshows, elderly people often park up get the deck chairs out and sit for hours watching all the different acyivities going on. Well policed and you always get a hello from the locals. There is so much i cant tell you about it.. Come down see for yourself. Have a pleasent day. Dont take that away. My only complaint would be getting out. When seaworld closers it can take a hour to get down seaworld drive, but thats not the seaway! Peace

Giving away, selling, pushing in, stealing, bullying into, shafting your way into or onto public or private land (take note Tom Tate re: his shonky theft of Surfers Bowls Club), is NOT on.
The Spit is P.U.B.L.I.C. land, owned BY the people, FOR the people.
I just visited Newcastle city and saw the crap that goes on with big ships in and out and realise that the only reason you'd be PRO CST would be for money and to hell with anything else.
A CST would totally sodomise the GC seaway. That's never a good thing.

Please read the Urbis and VDM reports on the Council website before you make any decision as to whether or not the CST should go ahead. Continued maintenance of the site (dredging) seems massively expensive and the estimated amount of dredging and the costs associated with it seem conservative. Who will pay these ongoing costs?

    Mr T Tate,

for many years we are repeatedly asked if we want a Cruise Ship Terminal.. The answer is always a resounding NO.
We have very few and very small parks and marine play areas..We want More public open space in this large city.Do not allow development of ou remaining, meagre recreation areas.

I voted Yes to scrap the plans for the shipping terminal. But that said if they could find another place of the coast for it that wouldn't have such devastating consequences. And wouldn't effect everyone so much with the communities approval then that would be better. But also in regards to what else has been posted, yes we need a permanent car race track but where could we put it? Out at nerang somewhere? where there is enough room and is still convenient. Or maybe on one of the many vacant blocks along the motorway would be better. Also some fitness equipment at the spit in the park would be awesome.

At the moment the spit is a haven for snakes ant vermin of the four and two legged type.
The spit could have some development along the lines of open space recreation.
Perhaps build a permanent car race track. this would stop the gridlock that occurs every year and open the area up to the public.

I have voted yes for a cruise ship terminal but with the reservation that it should be off shore with limited footprint on the spit and seaway.

    Trick question???

I really think that giving away public land is the wrong thing to do.That is the only reason there are developers lining up for it. The cruise ship terminal has nothing to do with it, they want to make money on wavebreak, the spit and a casino! How about you build a terminal offshore, and just ferry them in with boats?? that happens all over the world. Or make it at jacobs well! the spit is one of the nicest places on the gold coast. leave it but spend money on new bbq areas, etc.

If the 'Save the Spit' group are so passionate to save this area of an unused carpark & scrubland, where is their proposal to make this an area that Gold Coasters can be proud of & take visitors to enjoy. I have seen nothing presented in the last 20 years by this group.
Mayor Tate does have to keep the Councilor's on side though & involve them in amendments to the plan so they take ownership & then sell it to all Councilor's constituants.
The Gold Coast needs the CST for future growth & this can be seen by any Gold Coaster that has taken a cruise recently, either domestically or internationally.
