Will David Moyes be managing Manchester United at the start of the 2014-15 Barclays Premier League season?

As a very long-time Manchester United supporter, I am dismayed that without Ferguson as coach the team has noy got his focus. I do not think Moyes is the right fit. I am not sure who really could be. But 7th in the BPL table is a travesty. Moyes' coaching style is apparently wrong for the team. Mind you I do not ever want to see the rolling door for coaches such as teams like Chelsea and Real Madrid have, where if your team does not win all the titles up for grabs the coach is fired.

I bet the half who voted no weren't even MUFC fans before SAF. Perhaps because they were too young or not even born then but at least get to know the club you now support. This may come as a surprise but MUFC wasn't always a great team. In fact, before SAF, the majority of their history resembles a mid table top flight club. In their 138 year history they have only won the top flight 20 times, 13 of which were won by SAF in the past 27 years. Point being, many MUFC fans don't remember or haven't bothered to learn about the lean years of their club. Is Moyes the right man for the job, probably not but don't give up on him before he's had an honest chance to prove himself otherwise you're nothing more than a Glory Hunter, plastic fan.

This coming from a Ken Bates era Chelsea fan who knows a thing or two about supporting a club through lean years.

John Murray - your memory is dreadful.
That Cup Final was in 1983.
Ferguson had nothing to do with it, he was hired in 1986.
He did not make a Cup Final until 1990 when he got lucky in a replay against very weak opposition that also just avoided the drop zone along with Man U.
Normal service resumed with 1991 League Cup Final with a defeat to an even weaker second division side.

So yes, Moyes should be given time, much the same as Ferguson.

this man has a team of older players with not alot of new quality ones..... only ones that have been fed to the public as good....which they are not....there is not a new wave of replacements, but for crying out loud this man is trying to bury this team in signing crap players (everton giving us
fro boy)for lots of money just to say he has spent it....when was the last time a deal between chelsea and man u has gone down, do we really think they are going to sell us a good player...for double what he is worth...only because we will pay it....he fired the staff, the players dont trust him, he spends money on things we dont need...maybe he should at least play the players in their proper positions so they can suceed....ryan giggs for manager...simple, then at least he has a five year window due to his accomplishments.... i remember norman whiteside....

Too many people say give Moyes time. Why? The man does not have any clue what to do. United played a passing, flowing game with quick counter attacks over the last 20 years --equaling massive success. Because Moyes is so brilliant he decides to change the team's style " to make them better" and they are totally wasted. Moyes was told to keep the background staff but being arrogant he then fires the lot and brings in the Monty Python dimwits. Hence the result-- they are destroyed. He is trying to make the players play an antiquated and brain dead way of playing -- even Moyes don't know what it is. He has destroyed the players so that they can not perform any more - no drive, no confidence, no fire, no urgency, no skill, scared -- it is really sad to watch. The last champions league game -- I felt so bad for the players, the very worst I have ever seen them play - the very worst!! This is because of Moyes. There have been far too many instances to mention where Moyes demonstrated his total lack of skill in team selections, tactics, playing players in wrong positions. Just brutal! Horrible. Terrible lame management. His best 3 players are RVP, Rooney and Mata - Moyes never plays them in their best positions and puts a leash on RVP and Rooney. Mata is a gifted play maker and where does Moyes play him -- on the wing!! I also feel the upper crust at Man U are far too complacent allowing Man U to be totally destroyed. They will lose $millions from not making the Champions league next season. They will pay for this complacency since this will probably deter world class players being brought in. The world sees what is going on -- who would ever want to play for Moyes -- unless they have suicidal tendencies.
The year is 2014, the year Moyes completely destroyed Manchester United. How would you like to add this to your resume?

Do you remember (regretfully many ManU fans cannot, they are too young and so use to success) the ManU vs Brighton FA Cup final, probably about 1986 time. 2-2 and it went to extra time and Brighton missed a sitter.

United under Alex Ferguson changed the goalkeeper for the replay and they won 3-0 I think. The Manager had he lost that replay was gone, toast! Ferguson stayed and built a dynasty, that has spoilt United fans.

Moyes inherited yesterdays men, yes he needs to rebuild, yes he needs to change out players, yes he may have to be brutual in doing it. But ManU fans everything has its day and time, perhaps unquestioned success every season is no longer a real possibilty, City are strong, Chelsea are strong, Liverpool are getting stronger as are other clubs (i wish I could say Tottenham) and regretfully Ars*nal is still there!

United fans live with real situations, many of us have had to for many years. Nothing is forever.

Moyes has risen to his level of incompetence and he needs to go. Not only does he have no clue how to manage a tier-one club but he will also have no clue how to oversee the total rebuild of Man U. Any other person with dignity, class and honour would have resigned by now - the fact that Moyes has not tells us a lot about what kind of a person he is. He is not worthy to be at Old Trafford.
As Sir Alex is a control-freak he chose Moyes because he can tell Moyes what to do and since Ed Woodward is spineless and in awe of Sir Alex he rubber-stamped the decision. Man U should hire Lucien Favre and in the summer spend US$300million to buy six world-class players. On the team they should only keep - De Gea, Rooney, van Persie, Mata and Rafael. The rest of the players should be sold for a dime or relegated to sit on the bench. Also, remember that the owners of Man U also own the Tampa Bay Bucaneers who have finished in last place every year over the past five years, so these people are very comfortable with owning a losing team. The Glazers have only disdain and contempt for the traditions and the supporters of Man U. Everything the supporters worried about with the Glazers is coming true. In summary - a good start for a new beginning will be for Ed Woodward and David Moyes to take responsibility for what they have done and ...resign.

I can't even imagine Moyes seeing out the remainder of this season. This guy is in total la la land, United must stop believing in Fergie and Charlton and rid the club of David Moyes before he brings more embarrassment to the club.

When they had a chance to get professional coach Mourino they should have made that choice u can not blame Moyes but the board so they need to stick with the problem and work it out. Bringing Ferguspn back is not going to make the different, looking at how they have two old players still in the team does not help.
I believe that Moyes does not have free choices to make this is still very much control under Ferguson.

  • Alan Smith - 10 years ago

The job is far too big for him. I have no idea why he was selected. I could imagine Ferguson coming back until they can find a real manager. Moyes is bush-league. Everton is doing much better now that he's gone so what exactly are his credentials?

  • Keith - 10 years ago

If it were any other club, Moyes would probably be shown the door. But Manchester United does not work that way. They'll give him time to sort things out. Then it depends on how he does. But if this were Swansea or Tottenham Hotspur or Southampton, he'd already be gone by now.....

There will be new signings for next year that will put Moyes in a better light.
