Cycling is good, but I don't want to take space from cars. Even with the downsides, I prefer:

Status quo: Bikes and cars should share existing space, even though few people seem to like doing so

Bike lanes should just be painted lines on the road, even though they haven't worked very well downtown in the past

Allow bikes on sidewalks, even though this may put pedestrians at risk

Turn sidewalks into bike lanes, even though this will inconvenience pedestrians

Road diet: Squeeze the width of existing lanes to make room for a cycle track where possible

Allow bikes on plus-15s, even though this is a terrible idea

A futuristic network of elevated bike tracks, even though this would cost a fortune and probably ruin downtown

Another idea that I will detail in the comments section below
