I just heard the appalling news that Michael Vick might be allowed to represent Minnesota as part of the Vikings. I am not a football fan but I am a proud Minnesotan and, so long as the Vikings are based in Minnesota, they are a representative of our fine state.
Just because Michael Vick "served his time" does not mean that the horrific animal abuse of his past has been erased. I have heard the excuse that Michael Vick's participation in animal abuse stemmed from some sorry past experience in his childhood. Excuse me? He was involved in the dog fighting rings because it was profitable to do so. He made MONEY fighting dogs. MONEY - the classic root of all evil and evil, indeed, were his actions.
To reward him now with high paying employment in the Vikings spits in the face of the decent, law-abiding, animal-respecting people among us. He may have done his time and "paid" for the criminal side of this crime but the social crime against these innocent animals - who have no voice of their own - can never be repaid.
