No he would have made a terrible leader for Alberta. For not only what has already been said,as he was a spend happy bully. The biggest reason for me was all the money he made on property he sold to the city needed for the new hockey arena.Which would explain why he fought so hard to disprove every other potential site to build.

NO NO NO He is old old old and all he knows is spend spend spend and not a people person and thinks Albertans are hicks and let him go back to Ontario they need a mayor.... after all that is where he is from.
He is not a leader and not a team player just wants to spend Alta money that the tax payers do not have.....!!
He has touched enough of Alberta's hard earned tax $$'s . Be sided there are questionable spending in the
City council and his spending that has not been investigated as of yet!!!

I know what the city councilors who served with him would say if they were asked in confidence what their opinion was. The Federation of Community Leagues would say the same. Stephen Mandel was a bully. There were no democratic decisions in council while he was the mayor. Councilors were not permitted to represent their constituents if Stephen Mandel did not agree with what they said. Some councilors were so intimidated that they would not speak during public hearings. They were expected to tow the line. Stephen Mandel came across as funny and outspoken in the public. However, behind the scenes he was a mean, dictator. He would tell staff to deliberately ignore certain policies that council had passed in order to achieve what he wanted. Any employee with integrity would resign. Professional planners must follow a code of ethics, however, Mayor Mandel would insist that they follow what he wanted regardless of council's decision. If Stephen Mandel became premier, the public would have no say. I doubt that we would have any savings left if he was in power.

I think that Mandel could be a great PC Party Leader. I also don't think that is should or could matter. It seems like every recent election the Party changes leaders, convinces Albertan's that it is a 'new' PC Party, or a New Government, or whatever they think will convince us to keep voting them back in. The Party MP's are complicit in Premier Reford's behavior, they are complicit in her spending, they are complicit in this government's actions and especially their lack thereof. It's time to move beyond this one Party, one Government, one person, many chances, Alberta.

Mandel has what it takes. He's a visionary who won't abandon the voters who support him. He would avoid all of these silly pitfalls (expensive plane rides) and spend his time leading.
