Just because Congress is full of mean-spirited Republicans, doesn't mean poor people should go hungry. This country is spending 7.8 billion dollars a month on the war in Afghanistan, and Congress wants to save $1.95 on cheating the poor out of foodstamps?

Thank you Gov Kitzhaber, for your compassion!

Nobody should go hungry. Anyone who thinks he did the wrong thing might try a three day fast to develop some empathy.

I love the notion that Walmart and fast food joints should pay to support snap programs.

It is instructive that the Oregonian feels a need to query it's readers about the Governor's decision. The Oregonian has become increasingly conservative and the print newspaper has become a travesty. Those of us who still like a newspaper to read over breakfast are being ill-served. The online version apparently feels it is important to run these dumb surveys. It is too bad that a city the size of Portland cannot support a decent newspaper. If I am forced to go to on line for news I can find far better news sources on line than the Oregonian.

This poll makes me wonder if the Oregonian knows the real people who live in our state..
Why would anyone in their right mind even wonder if our governor did the right thing by making sure our children didn't go to bed hungry.
People who rely on the SNAP program don't ever need further "poverty punishment" - the poll might have asked if corporations like walmart should have to subsidize our SNAP programs because many of the folks working for them rely on assistance because of their corporate greed.
People who work full time should not have to live in poverty.

Governor Kitzhaber did the right thing in limiting cuts to food stamps for hungry Oregonians. It is critical that children have access to adequate food and nutrition which is what Food Stamps provide. I am proud to support a Governor who does the right thing for poor children and their families.

Governor Kitzhaber absolutely did the right thing. People are not on food stamps because they want to be. For people to be allowed/forced to go hungry in this country is criminal and inhumane, regardless of what opponents to the SNAP program say or want people to believe.

Thank you Governor for having the courage and compassion to stand up for what is right.
