What question would you like us to ask Premier Colin Barnett?

Mr Barnett. I would love to know where you are hiding your SILENT MAJORITY who support YOUR shark cull? It is clear that the noisy minority, of which I am one, are more willing to step up and be heard on this issue, why are your so-called supporters keeping quiet? They have as much right as us to be heard, but choose to hide behind your hairbrained schemes to destroy our environment. When will you finally admit this scheme is illconcieved and unsupported by the MAJORITY of voters who can, and most probably will, remove you from office at the next government election.

Give perth some competition in the retail industry to drive prices down. How come third world countries have petrol a hell of alot cheaper than Australia??

Have a child sex offender register and stop protecting the guilty and start protecting the innocent!

  • Reanna - 10 years ago

Mr Barnett, I am going to be honest, you remind me of hitler. You decide what is best for the Perth people!there are many things I would like to ask you to change, for example running a water pipe down from up north to solve the water shortage, extending train lines as promised and perhaps putting in trams?! Upgrading all the roads so the major highways are bigger than two lanes to help with congestion. Put some restrictions on the amount of land/houses/business that overseas people buy.

How much longer will it be before Coles and Woolworths get some serious competition, therefore preventing their rip off costs on their customers. Allow longer licensing laws to fall in with the rest of civilized world and bring the likes of Aldi & Cosco

  • Scott - 10 years ago

Premier, are you aware that the people of WA think that the latest Buswell inciedent is just an other example of a cover up by "Old pals"
Having a drink problem is only part of a wider issue. Not being honest about it is an other. Trying to play it down and covering it up shows the voters we can't believe you.

    Dear Mr. Barnett,
could you please stop culling sharks? It doesn't make sense and doesn't increase the safety of swimmers/surfers at all. It would only make sense if you would have a crystal ball and could check from there which of the millions of sharks was going to attack someone - then you could take this single shark out and leave the rest of these beautiful creatures alone and let them keep the ocean healthy as they've been doing for millions of years.
Reducing the number of players in a lottery does not actually increase the chance of your numbers to be drawn. Thinking of the number of cyclists getting run over by cars and lorries in Berlin I would still not want their driving licenses to be withdrawn randomly because I could still get run over by the next vehicle. I still get on my bicycle every day knowing full well the next crossing could be the last one I see. It's my decision just like it's every beach goers' decision to enter the shark's habitat or not.

You are scaring off your own people when it comes to the next elections and scaring off potential tourists like me and other people from Germany, that's a fact. At the moment the only thing that would attract me and my friends to visit Australia is the thousands of people opposing the cull - they represent the type of people I always thought Australia was all about.
I would keep away from the beaches anyway as long as the baited drum lines are in because I don't think luring sharks from the open waters closer to shore makes swimming any safer.

PLEASE STOP THE CULL - Thank you

  • Jenny Ough - 10 years ago

Your shark cull has been a complete failure, decimating the local tiger shark population (NO THREAT TO HUMANS - I dive with them), has not captured a single great white, and yet has captured at least one dolphin which you chose to hide. Why continue this flawed program, at extreme expense to me - as a taxpayer? Almost forgot to mention, I VOTE too - below the line.

There is too many rules and regulations in this state! (All of Australia actually) and people wonder why our fantastic state is struggling. this place is not appealing in the slightest. People with the drive and ability who want to open some sort of pub, club, restaurant or any thing to do with the entertainment industry has so much red tape to deal with it just becomes a passing thought instead of reality. This state use to have a vibe about it but go to the city or freo on the weekend it's dead by 9pm. The crack down by police has a lot to do with this, I'm all for keeping order but these days you can't pass wind with out getting a move on notice so people don't go out instead they sit at home and smoke crack and we wonder why we have a drug problem too. Let the bouncers do their jobs like they are paid to do. people soon learn what's acceptable and what's not we've gone a bit fragile these days. The addition of too may rules and regulations is killing our every ones right to enjoy themselves and unless you have enough money to line the pockets of the pollys like the big players can you can not create that vibe we need to bring the tourism dollars in. Perfect example is crown casino I love the place and have a better time there than anywhere in WA. Why? You ask, no I'm not a gambler but it has that vibe and not a copper in sight the security deal with their own problems. Hats off to Packer you've done a fantastic job of the place and I'm sure you could not have made it successful like you have if you had your place swarming with outside influences. So come on Collin help bring back the vibe this state so desperately needs. I'm not saying it's the whole answer but it's a good start.

Nelson Mandela said, "You can tell the soul of a society by the way it treats its children." Think about that statement in relation to the way the State Government is treating this State's children with it savage, uncaring education cuts.

  • Margot - 10 years ago

Why does the government think a totally incompetent crab fisher who seems to have no experience with sharks whatsoever is fit to execute the drum-line policy in the southwest at 5700 taxpayer dollars a day when a professional shark fisher would have done the job for $2000 a day less?

  • Jade - 10 years ago

Do you ever intend to have a train line/light rail network out to Ellenbrook? The re are only 3 roads out of the area and it's getting to the point where lord street and west swan rd are heavily congested. Also gnangara rd is so dangerous! Try driving to work everyday on that death trap! Will there be any improvements made to these arterial routes in and out of Ellenbrook. We feel like we have been forgotten.

There is such a potential for tourism in WA, but many overseas and interstate visitors prefer to go somewhere cheaper. Our accommodation and meal prices put visitors off, and international tour operators struggle to put together attractive WA packages that will sell. Many local tours on offer run irregularly, and visitors who haven't prebooked, often miss out. As soon as you travel outside Perth, the quality of hotels and motels goes downhill but not the prices. Cruise companies avoid stopping at many WA ports because of the costs, which are nearly twice as high as in other western countries.
We have one of the most beautiful cities in the world and stunning scenery in the rest of our state, so what can we do to make holidays in WA more affordable again? Another video campaign just won't do the trick. It's not that WA is not attractive, it is simply too expensive!

  • Val - 10 years ago

Colin, I live near South Street ( Bullcreek/Leeming). The police target drivers using designated bus lanes along this road but NEVER look at the trucks that are over 19m long that are not meant to use this road to access the Freeway. A law was passed where trucks over 19m must access the Freeway via Roe Highway but you can see them any time of the day blatantly ignoring this law. It was decided to keep them off this stretch when Stage 8 of the Roe Highway extension was put on hold as so many trucks were using it that it was a safety issue. Please get the police to have a blitz on this and to try to get the message across to truckies!!

I would like to know why public transport is so expensive in WA. I live in mandurah and travel to the cbd for work, its costs me over $150 a fortnight just in train fares. all the other states have day riders (available anytime) and some weekly passes and options to help make transport mor affordable. and before you say move closer to the city we cant because it too expensive for rent. Can we get some better options for commuters that need to travel before 9am?

  • Yoshi Kitamori - 10 years ago

What suburbs will be covered by the MAX light rail? Do you think that the MAX light rail service could ease the option of injecting $47m into a multi-storey carpark at edgewater train station?

  • Ean - 10 years ago

Mr Barnett, what are you doing for housing affordability for those of us on pensions and minimal wages? 7-8 years for public housing and 4-5 if it is an emergency is a bit rich "to get a life" with. After 3 years 'couchsurfing' I no longer have a life. What is your government doing for us?

  • jason - 10 years ago

When are you going to listen to the people who put you in your ivory tower and stop killing our sharks? Why can't you spend all that wasted money used to make our coastal waters run red on healthcare, education and transport? We don't need a shark cull, we don't need a waterfront built in your honour, we don't need a new stadium, we need decent services and a plan for WA's social and economic future.

  • Alex Penter - 10 years ago

Mr Barnett, can you please give us some information and/or plans about the potential South Perth train station? Would love to see it happen!

  • Lesley - 10 years ago

Lots of negative comments here so I'm putting a positive one in.I personally am very happy with the shark cull, the hoon laws, the new mandatory sentencing for repeat burglars and new hospitals.I am surprised that Colin is still operating with all the stress from Buswell, shark cull twits, rowdy uncontrolled opposition in parliament and Bill Shortens inane comments.

  • Cheryl Anders - 10 years ago

Love the 'coffee with Colin' chats.
I would like to know if you have ever considered the 'plastic bottle refund scheme' that they have and have had for ages in NT and SA.
If you have considered it what was the end result and if it has been decided that this wouldn't work, why?
I can only see benefits for our state, and future generations that will learn the value of recycling and for our children making some pocket money on the side.
Are the objections coming from the beverage makers, and if so what are their arguments for not supporting this? Thank you for your time.

Will Troy Buswell's car be crushed?
I assume that crushing a ministerial car is not going to happen, so what about his personal vehicle?

  • Eddie Robbins - 10 years ago

Mr Barnett with all the lies you have told when becoming premier about rail ways etc how do you sleep at night

  • Tom - 10 years ago

Mr Premier, Perth is very similar to Dubai in the sense that we have the mines and they have the oil. We both know that this will no longer keep the economy rolling when the boom eventually stops. So Dubai reached out to tourism and spent heavily to invest in their city to become one of the world's best tourist destinations. This has also happened within the last 15-20 years that they have boomed in tourism. Perth is somewhat 50 years behind Dubai in that field. Should Perth seek a similar approach to Dubai and embrace the need to succeed in tourism and become Australia's number one tourist destination, or even the Southern Hemisphere's top tourist destination? This can have good effect on the city which is growing too fast to support. Big MetroNet styled underground/overground rail networks, tall business CBD towers/apartments, theme parks (Disneyland Australia), a massive event to set our goal towards - like the 2028 Olympic Games where Burswood Peninsular & Belmont Racecourse can be the Olympic Park, or the World Expo. Other things to embrace the city - Perth is known for being the 'city of lights', light the city up and have an international lights festival for a month each year. This city needs to have recognition in becoming the best city people want to visit in our country, so this city needs to have what people would like to see or do. In personal opinion, The Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay, East Perth Waterfront and Perth Stadium are really great developments for Perth which are well needed, but they are not developments which people would drop what they are doing to come visit Perth. We need Perth to have our own Eiffel Tower, Liberty Statue, CN Tower, Burj Khalifa, Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Mr Barnett, what are your thoughts on this topic and what can we do about it to make Perth a number one tourist destination within the next 14 years?

  • Reece McCullough - 10 years ago

Colin, are you aware that maintaining your hardline on the shark cull will impact on your parties polling success, even amongst loyal state liberal voters.

  • Sam - 10 years ago

I used to wonder why we don't have Toll Roads or Car Pool lanes until I read that they don't work in areas like Perth. When you have fantastic train lines down the freeway it doesn't make sense to have toll roads or High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, since many people will stop using public transport and use the HOV lanes. The reduction in cars from car pooling will be negated by the increase in cars from the people who stop using trains and start using freeways.

Bus lanes might be a better option, which will decrease the time it takes people to get to the train station and will hopefully decrease overall traffic congestion

    Dear Premier

Are you able to advise how much money has been spent on royalties for regions?
Do you think this money has been worth while and give you give examples of where a bulk of the royalties money has been spent?
Do you think the deal that was done to start royalties for regions, so that the Liberals could have balance of power was a fair deal for all Western Australians?
Is it fair to say, that we didn't make the best of the boom times, what money was put aside for needed infrastructure, hospitals etc in the metro region?
    How is your airconditioner going?

    Regards

    CV Voter :)

Colin, if you could choose anyone in the opposition to sleep with, who would that be?
Which opposition members do you think you could beat in a fist fight?

  • Rebecca - 10 years ago

    Hi Colin,
Why we focus on building a better WA for its residents not for the rich and famous. We need our freeway widen, to accommodate more traffic flow. We need to remove the bike lanes all over Perth, as this is taking up roadways, and creating traffic hazards. Get the bike riders back onto the footpaths, as there is only a small majority who choose to ride their bikes daily, I don't see why they are given priority over vehicles. They do not pay registration, they do not have lights, indicators, nor are they identifiable if they swipe your vehicle's side mirror. How can this be policed?

  • Wendy fisher - 10 years ago

Do you think we could put qualified people out on your drum lines to "correctly" release undersized sharks?

  • Reza - 10 years ago

    Dear Premier,

If upgrading 2kM of bike path (between Narrows Bridge and Thelma st) is taking more than a few weeks, what timeframe shall we expect for your other massive projects?! We cyclists have been diverted to very busy streets and awful bike paths and it won't be long before someone gets horribly injured. Again, poor planning and management which is a typical of this state's governments. Can someone at least tell us when we see the new path?

When will the cage ban be lifted in perth for MMA. It is safer and tourism will boom when events are held in Perth Arena.

  • Chris - 10 years ago

With so many people in the private sector being made redundant, taking pay cuts, or pay freezes how can the government justify ever increasing wages and benefits for nurses, teaches and police? Surely now is the right environment to gather the will of the tax payers and say enough is enough.

  • jeffery - 10 years ago

colin why is our state in so much debt, and getting worse. as our leader colin do you care about how families young and old are hurting with all the increases, do you think your governments policy on education will affect our children, why did your government consider contracting out the patient support services of the health system, when it has failed in the past.

  • David Cleary - 10 years ago

Colin, do you realize you are out touch with the needs of the people of this state?

  • Tony - 10 years ago

How can you possibly justify proposing taking burswood rate paying assets away from The Town of Victoria Park (The Crown Casino and new stadium) when it will have a huge negative financial impact on the council and it's ratepayers. Surely the operations of these "icons" will not be enhanced in anyway if they are "given" to the City of Perth. Even from a physical location they belong in Victoria Park.

  • David - 10 years ago

How can we have faith in the truth being revealed regarding knowledge of the buswell drink driving incident when the department of premier and cabinet are investigating themselves about the issue? Surely a conflict of interest..

How many cars have not been reclaimed after seizure.
