Based on what I heard/read about this incident, I feel the mistake made rest 100% on the head coach.
If the only available backup was too sick to play, he should have told Kuchmey after 4 (maybe 5) that he was going to have to leave him in because of the other goalie's health. Whether it would be Rychel or Boughner's job to secure a backup, it surely isn't Kuchmey's. It is an extension of just how poorly prepared the Spits are to take on the Knights.
Mr. Boughner may have been very embarrassed by his team when he made his remarks to the press, but that's no excuse. He should take responsibility for his mistake and publically apologize, or at minimum, apologize in the dressing room with the entire team present.

Dalen is 19 years old. He is a rookie in the OHL. He is not a professional. Our culture puts entirely too much pressure on these kids, NOT men, to behave like seasoned, mature professionals. Every situation has its own set of circumstances, and I believe these particular circumstances were extenuating. Sports are not the be-all or end-all of life. Let's not make this kid feel any worse than he must already feel. I am a Spitfire fan, season ticket-holder and mother.

His name is Dalen, not Darren.
