The vast majority of the homes in my area were built between the 1800's and the early 1900's. This means that when previous owners decided to upgrade from dirt floors to concrete many of them didn't bother leveling the substrate or indeed even floating out the concreat. They just poured it wealbarow after wealbarow of concreat on top of a substrate level of what was usually coal slag. It's not I don't want to level out my tools it's just that it would require so much work that it just doesn't seem wirth it. Especially since the tools in my shop are not stationary i.e. I have to push them out of the way so my wife doesn't feel crowded when she goes to use the washing machines. It would have been good to have a "I'd love to level my tools but I just can't justify it given my shop conditions" category.
