If we are to have a Constitutional Convention here in CT we should limit the number of days and the frequency Connecticut's legislatures meet, i.e., 150 days every other year. We should not extend terms, we should leave the existing time in office as is but also initialize term limits. Hopefully these items will limit the damage they can do while in office.

Congress should be the one to have elections every 2 years. the house has a drop of common sense.... mind you i said a drop. the congress however doesn't even have that, when you have evil people like Harry Reid John Mccain Lindsey Graham and Feinstein your asking for the long end of the stick.
Next thing you know they make Senate Commitees, Defense Commitees, majority of the people on them are not elected and yet somehow claim they have authority based on their past history. rubbish i say, end these special interest commitees and make senate elections every 2 years, idk about the house - we can focus on that once the senate has been brought back to liberty , tackle the bigger evil first

4 year terms for Congressmen? Only 1 person commenting here was gullible enough to be fooled by Larsony's reason for extending the time he collects taxpayer money for his salary for making life WORSE for all of us who workers who fund his travel, pension and non-ObamaCare medical coverage. However, John Larsony is making life much better for people who collect welfare and do nothing but vote for their benefits. The only place I'd like to see John Larsony serve 4 years or more - - - is in Danbury.

Typical Democrap. I say elections EVERY YEAR!
Larson is just tired of working and wants to coast for 3 years instead of 1 year.
Only time you see a politician busy is on election year. Then all the sudden they distance themselves from the extreme.

How about this, ban lawyers from running. How simple things would be then. Commen sense might then be the new rule of the land.

You are all dramatically underestimating how bad it is to have politicians constantly running for re-election. 4 years sounds good to me.

As the original intent of the constitution, one term then back to the farm. Politics was never intended to be a "career", you provided public service then went back to your farm/business. Tax payers should not be funding their retirement or healthcare or further political office. Politicians should also have to pay for their own expenses and file tax returns to recover whatever portion the IRS rules allow. Just like you and me.
Enough of their BS, the longer they remain in office, the more Draconian our laws become.

Four years? I think we should keep these people on a month to month basis.

I have not considered Rep. Larson's proposal in toto, but there is no way I am going to accept a longer term length for congressmen. If anything, US Senators' term lengths should be scaled back to four or two years -- imagine how strange it was seeing Al Franken elected in 2008, knowing he would not stand election until November 2014! Even in the 18th century, when transportation was either walking or by horse, the power of the purse and the law was considered so severe that the officeholder must stand election every two years!
Larson sees no problem, but I remind dear Reader that the American bicameral legislature is better than the British model. In the British model, the House of Commons is elected, but the House of Lords are appointed to office for life, and/or serve because of their unelected position in society. For example, the Archbishop of Canterbury is ex officio a "Spiritual Lord" and member of the House of Lords.
The original US Constitution populated the Senate not by public vote, but by the will of the representatives of each State. When we, in 1913, deprived the state of that right and gave it instead to the people, we in effect completely stripped the state of any authority over the federal government and its largesse, and it remains disenfranchised to this day.

We do not need career politicians, no retirement packages, no grand traveling on our dime. Matter of fact after this administration has proven they have no self control I would like to see the POTUS and his family be on a budget for their traveling. Americans across America have a budget for their family vacations and so should our president and his family. This has gotten so out of hand. Have any of our politicians heard of using their computers to communicate ?

While we're at it let's limit the Supremes to eight years.
Jude - 10 years ago
Sure, the dem's would immediately get the first 2 years.

What Mr. Larson should do is instead of four year terms is have term limits of eight years and have the Senate have four year terms limited to two terms and four terms for the House. This will end career politicians.

Just another manifestation of the Democratic Party's contempt for our Constitution.
Larson used to seem a decent sort, but Washington went to his head, and since he became Pelossi's lap dog, he's made a sharp left turn and gotten out of touch with both the founding principles and his constituents.

Enough with these career politicians, we need an article 5 convention and put in term limits because we know they will never passed it in DC. Larson and Delauro have already been there a generation and, lord help us, we now have Murphy for life.

What a joke! The only way I would support 4 year terms is if we limited them to 2 terms and then no more. The founders did not envision professional politicians like Larson, Delauro, Courtney,Murphy, Esty, Hines and "slimy Dick". Oops all Democrats all from Connecticut and we wonder why we are in trouble.

Amend the constitution?...What constitution, Rep Larson?...the one your party is totally ignoring? You?...for 4 years...spare us, please
Kent Belvin - 10 years ago
Oh please, four years, just think how much more "entrenched" and unresponsive these folks will become. Please remind Mr. Larson that this is "the People's House", not "the Politician's House"!
