What do you think of the AFL Tribunal's decision to ban Jack Viney?

I think the AFL are concerned about future compensation of players, not so much the individual well being...
The players have chosen the sport for what it is and are fully aware of the risks!
Any act with malicious intent should be dealt with, however accidents happen.
Time to leave our great game alone.

Any rule that would result in Viney being suspended for that clash of bodies is a joke. What next, we alternate teams getting first use of the ball at bounces so ruckmen don't accidentally get hurt.

Think of the victims future and family. It was Jack who should have abandoned the tackle (bump) earlier. Two weeks is minimum from my perspective

Bob, jack didn't hit him high, it was the head clash between Georgiou and Lynch which broke Lynch's jaw.

The AFL tribunal has gone beyond a joke. Soon players will not try to tackle an opposing player,
for fear of being rubbed out.
They have made a mockery of the Brownlo. The best player will not receive it, but
maybe this year it will go to a first year player.
GET RID OF THE TRIBUNAL, THEY ARE ONE BIG JOKE.

The bump is not dead just the bump that causes injury. Why is it that everyone is up in arms about Viney's two week suspension and don't care that a player who was playing the ball got his jaw broken?

The Tribunal got it right. High hits are not to be tolerated (whether deliberate or accidental). A broken jaw, -it can't get much higher than that can it!

AFL...men running around in singlets and tight shorts...not something to get worked up over unless you are female.

Why Don't the AFL go all the way and make it touch footy, Thats what they are trying to do by stealth.
Footy is played because of the contest not despite it

I havent attended a single afl game this season (despite being a 12 year 11 game ticket holder/member of a club) because it simply isnt a contest anymore... I have also spent 300.00 to become a season ticket holder with my local Eastern Football League - why? the games are better, they are a contest, its exciting to see a free flowing game without constant umpire interruption, i can get a $2 snag, a decent potato cake and a full strength beer, free parking and take the family...
Seriously AFL - time to have a good hard look at yourself!

The 6th of may, 2014, is the saddest day in AFL history. The bump is dead. RIP BUMP. Tom Lynch has the smallest penis I have ever seen, toughen up you weak maggot dog.
    Cunts

The heart of our game is the contest, two players running hard to win first possession. This ruling in my view takes the contest out of our game. Without the contest we don't have a game.

kevin sheedy made a great comment a couple of weeks ago , AFL is now using the methods of soccer to hold the ball as long as possible and then pass the ball when the opportunity is there. this embarrassing suspension will now complete the AFL to soccer cycle. my kids may as well play soccer its more physical than AFL. By the way AFL, you have turned this great game into a joke. I cant even watch a full game as its so boring. you have lost me .

Fyffe, Douglas and now Viney. All ball players who accidentally hit another player in the head. Unfortunately because of Fyffe and Douglas' verdicts, Viney HAD to get 2 games. Don't agree with it but the AFL have set the precedent for the year (unless of course a Collingwood player is involved).

If players go into a contest should they brace themselves for unexpected bumps? Many 'rag dolls' seem to get hurt by not protecting their bodies. The hierarchy of AFL have turned the game into a complete joke. Many of those injured are at fault through their own lack of self preservation.

The AFL administrators have made a farce of the game. This is a ridiculous suspension for a young ball player who inadvertently made unintentional contact with an opponent.

  • Merv - 10 years ago

The AFL want more people to turn up to the game but now they have made it a no contact sport the future of big crowds is now in doubt. No wonder crowds are dropping off. A poor decision to say the least.
