Yes. I feel that autism is a disease, researching a cure will provide children an opportunity to have a higher quality of life than I have, and have had. Why wouldn't we research that?

As I was growing up, my parents did try various "promising cures, treatments or therapies" with (what I perceive as) positive, and beneficial, outcomes.

Of course autism is not a disease, and I find this whole (ongoing) debate highly frustrating.
Autism is not a disease, nor is it new. Some of the greatest minds of all time have been autistic.
I'm tired of this debate: autism is not a disease, and I wish that more people understood this. I feel the opinions of the adult ASD community are largely unheard on this matter.
