Do you think moms make too many “mama likes to drink” jokes?

While I don't think it's wrong for a responsible parent to indulge in a drink or two to unwind and relax at the end of a stressful, hectic day, I don't think it's particularly wise to "advertise" the fact to the immediate world. In this day and age of social networking, I would be reluctant to put anything in print that might bite me in the butt at a later date. Any personal information, even said in a joking manner, can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Why risk it? I am a 55 year old female, no prude and I appreciate a laugh as much as the next guy. I just don't want my neighbors, workmates and casual acquaintances knowing when and how much I drink, whether or not I choose to smoke, how often I have intercourse, etc. Privacy is a precious thing that we all have way too little of. It's disturbing to me that any person can type my name into a computer and literally pull up a zillion things about me. Have your fun with your friends, just be aware and conscious of what you say and to whom you say them to. Being a parent and grandparent myself, I would be particularly careful about saying you're having a martini playdate with the other moms. People can be vicious. Better safe than sorry. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, excuse me while I go open a bottle of wine!

I think moms need a good laugh like they need a good drink! Are we glorifying drinking with excessive drinking memes? Only if we are actually drink that much! I say joke away. It unites us in laughter.

I think the jokes about mommy needing a drink offer a sort of comradery between moms who need a break. I'm intelligent enough to know that my friends who make jokes and posts about drinking are not overdoing it. For me personally, I'm not throwing a few back every time I post on Facebook about drinking/alcohol. To the people who take offense to it, remove those people and concentrate on your own lives and families!

Being a work from home mom with with a husband who works full time and we have 2 small children, I do think ALL moms and dads need down time for thmselves after the kids go to bed. Drinking, working out, reading, or even taking a long shower may be their vice to feel relaxed at the end of some LONG days..with that being said I think all the "jokes" are making moms look bad, but with the same light dads who "joke" about the time of day being "beer :30" or "at happy hour" don't get judgement.

I don't think I see it being overused. I used to work full time and recently became a stay at home mom to my two preschoolers. I used to have more "mom dates" with wine when I was working....it doesn't mean I still don't need them now! Nothing is wrong with relaxing over a glass of wine with your mom friends. In fact, it can relieve a lot of tension and stimulate real adult conversation - not virtual Facebook chats. After all, dads frequently talk about having a beer together. As long as the children are not neglected, it shouldn't matter. My kids have more play dates than I do. Why can't we mothers have a good time without the kids? I never make the "need a drink" comment in front of my kids though. My four year old overheard me once and brought me a Dixie cup full of water!

Your life can be as public or private as you want it to be. The days when it was private are still here if you don't post it on social media. It is insane to blame social media or busy bodies when its you putting it out there. If women want to drink whatever if they want to talk about it whatever a joke is a joke people are WAY to over sensitive

Some moms like to take a puff when the kids arent around. Doesnt make em a bad mom just like having a drink doesnt either. People are way too worried about what others do. And some people maybe shouldnt put it online if they have busybody friends

I'm on the fence with this one. While I enjoy a drink (or three!) as much as the next person I want to be really careful that I never give the impression that I drink too much or that I'm negectful of my children. Whether it's true or not, I don't want that perception out there. The days of my personal/home life being only my business are gone. Our lives are very public now whether we like it or not. I just think we should all be careful.
