What a piece of crapola! My wife and I managed to get through most of the first half. At the point of the guy eating a heart I turned to her and said, "Any more of this?"
    "No," she said.
    "Me neither."
Come on, a whining failed writer becoming head of the English Department of the Sorbonne? Well, maybe. The French do hate the English, eh?
Hey, does somebody want to rewrite The Great Gatsby? A Farewell to Arms? Does somebody want to rewrite King Lear?
The idiots who wrote this travesty, produced it, directed it, all should be sent back to grammar school

This was a movie which should never have been re-made -- the original was perfect. Not one moment was wasted, and Roman Polanski proved what a genius he is. And the cast. Rosemary probably could have been played by many a young starlet, but she was news, and Sinatra dropped off divorce papers during the filming. John Cassavetes. What a complete and utter jerk, from the word go. The Castavets. The Castavets made this movie for me. Ruth Gordon ('Ah --COMEon Ro, whaddeya say?") Perfection. I have read the Ira Levin books, but can't remember how he characterized Minnie and Roman. Ralph Bellamy as the esteemed doctor. Every role was perfectly cast. Loved the scene where the vermin Guy explains to Ro that they can have lots of more children, life will be great, and she spits in his face.
I love this movie and watch it from time to time to practice on my Minnie Castavet.
Rosemary, as Minnie hands her a drink,"What's in it?"
"Well, snips and snails and puppy dog tails," says Minnie.
Rosemary, "But what if we want a girl?"
    Minnie, "Well, do you?"
Rosemary, "It would be nice to have a boy, first."
Minnie, " Well, there you go."

With all those commercials, it really didn't have a chance to build and maintain interest. Zoe Saldana was badly miscast as Rosemary. All the kissing in the beginning to establish them as a "loving couple" was overkill. It also seemed bizarre that Rosemary wouldn't have a computer and use it to research the apartment.

This version was just a total waste of time (I only watched for about 75 minutes, couldn't stand any more than that).
The fundamental flaw ,aside from the lousy "re-imagining" , was the complete fail on the casting. Yikes !
The inclusion of the blood and guts trope completely kills the original's creeping evil ,suspense-filled subtlety that is so totally frightening and effective (-psychological terror exists in the viewer's mind and is way scarier than anything shown on screen). That is where Polanski got it bang on the mark.

I saw the original RB about ten years after it was made ( I had to wait to be old enough to see it). I still remember so many details from that first viewing . NBC's version of RB is completely forgettable.
If there is a next attempt at screwing with the source material perhaps it will be:

Nowhere near Polanski's original. The pacing bogged down in places, Saldana was OK, but definitely not at her best, and her character portrayal was way off the mark from what it should have been (mostly on the shoulders of the director, but I think she had significant input that should have been overruled). The principal supporting actors were wooden. For a film that was supposedly updated to the 2010 decade there were anachronisms, such as a 30-something not using the internet to research anything regarding the apartments and their history, the satanic cult, or her pregnancy symptoms! Of import that truly detracted from the remake is the lack of subtlety with in-your-face reveals everywhere leaving zero mystery about what was going on at any point, from the suicide at the very beginning to the bitter end. Polanski knew how to manipulate the audience, dropping crumbs here and there and then letting the mystery slowly unravel itself and the audience eventually connecting the dots later. That and his film's relentless march building tension and suspense toward the horrifying ending are major reasons (among others) why his film was creepy and horrifying, This remake is completely lackluster mediocrity in all aspects of film making. The NBC execs, producers, director, cast and crew obviously did NOT pray hard enough for Rosemary's Baby -- it was tragically stillborn.

This remake was disappointing. It lacked suspense and seeing the baby was a letdown. Stick with the original.
