Yes Maks & Meryl, were fabulous no issue with that, but there's was more of a emotional connection, instead of great choreography and dancing is about the choreography, because the same could but said of Fred and Ginger and would they have been considered the greatest dance team without Fred 's choergraphy? NOT!
The show is suppose to be about the dance, not a popularity contest, but unfornately it has turned into that, which is said, because let's face it Candance should have gone home week one!
Regardless of her beliefs it's something she should have kept to herself, it's a show about dancing, not her religious convictions and it one truly believes and relies on God our savior we never need to speak of it, because he knows!
In closing it should have been Amy & Derek, because it's about the choreography and could have any of the other dancers did what she did without Derek's choreography, I think not, and not to say that Amy was anything less than inspiring and brilliant in the execution of what dancing is truly about!
On a finishing note, it was amazing after Maks won he literally paid no attention to Meryl at all, so was he just using her to finally win the trophy?
I would say yes and that's unfornate, because I know she is going to be terrible hurt, but I hope she learns from this venture!

Meryl was simply a better dancer than Amy. Actually, several others were better dancers than Amy.
When you look at Amy and Derek you can probably see a lot of viewers voting for Derek, as he is one of th most creative choreographers in the US today. His work with Amy set new highs and opened up a new field of choreography: Adaptive Choreography. Brilliant by any standard.
Amy, while impressive with her efforts to overcome the challenges she has, simply could match Meryl, James, Charlie, etc. when it comes to dancing. I doubt if she could have been as good as they are even if she didn't have her "challenges".
I'll give her credit for her commitment and I'll give Derek credit for his brilliance, but Meryl and Maks were the best in the show and deserved to win.
