The fact that anyone at all preferred "Elsa" over Erza is kind of sad.

I would never understand the "Erza" camp. My studies in linguistics say that in English, the common pronunciation of "Erza" results in something like "rr-za" which seems silly when there's a precedence that already exists that fits the Japanese pronunciation (Elsa). Along those lines, I find "Laxus" silly when a "Lux" is a unit for Illuminance.

Mashiro also simply has a very poor grasp of the English language as present in Rave Master, and the 3-4 different instances where he changed the spellings of a handful of suspect characters in Fairy Tail alone.

When it comes to something like "Loki", that just makes sense, as the Japanese pronunciation of that name would differ.
My rule of thumb is that if the character is supposed to have an English-sounding name, then there's no reason why that shouldn't be reflected in the subtitles. ^_^

I'm also a fan of changing the Japanese "r" to the letter "l"
So, "Levi" instead of "Revy", for example.
Most people will disagree with me on that one, however. XD

I personally feel that the written form (pronounced) should be as close as possible to the spoken form. For me that would be Charle or Charla, but not Carla. Obviously Loki, Erza and Ultear(implying Ul).
