Do you think closing down coal plants is a step in the right direction to fight climate change?

NO, we are not near as warm as the earth has been in recent geological past! We will only know if the climate is really changing a couple of thousand years from now when we look back at the long term temperature profiles.

Close them all! Won't take long for the cheaper alternative renewable sources to come into being. Did anyone read about the Tintina strip mine? ALL THE COAL GOES OVERSEAS. We'll even get the pollution from that. All those that want coal polluting our air should think of what they are doing to their children and grandchildrens lungs! It is easier to keep it clean than it is to clean it up!
