HURRAY FOR TIM. ITS ABOUT TIME SOMEBODY IS WILLING TO TAKE THE BULL BY THE HORNS AND SHOW YOUNG PEOPLE THAT THEY DONT HAVE TO STARVE THEMSELVES. I AM A PLUS SIZE WOMAN AND PROUD OF MY BODY.
    ONCE AGAIN THANKS TIM!

I am a plus sized girl and I love watching project runway. I like clothes and fashion, but for us larger girls outfits are usually black/brown and meant to hide our bodies. I don't want to hide, I want to stand out in the world! I like bright colors and patterns that just are not common in clothing my size. That, and every season on project runway, when there is a :real model" challenge, there is always a designer that has an attitude problem designing for a "plus sized" model. Those models are maybe are no where near what a true "plus sized woman" is in size...maybe a size eight or twelve...

That being said, I think if this is done it needs to celebrate women of different sizes and demeaning comments by designers cannot and should not be allowed. I think that is true on any season of project runway, by the way, I would like to see some kind of punishment for designers that put down their clients or at least admonishment from the judges...

By the way, where do I audition to model for the "plus size" show?

Watch? I would volunteer to be on it!

I've watched Project Runway from the beginning; hard-core fan. (Straight man, know nothing about fashion, don't watch any other reality shows, or really any TV at all except sports. I just like a show that focuses on the creative process.)

I would definitely enjoy this--but if you tell designers before the application process, you'll get a small number of applicants. It's not so much a matter of prejudice--or maybe it is, I don't know--but season after season, the designers have shown they are not comfortable designing for normal-sized women. If you spring it on them as a surprise after you've selected the cast (the way they did with the "all-team-challenge" season), you'll get a bunch of disgruntled designers. Not sure which path they would choose.

Don't think it will happen, but leave it to Tim to think of new ways of stretching the show's possibilities.

I would love to see this happen! It always makes me cringe when they use "normal" people on an episode, and the designers have absolutely no clue how to design something flattering. They always end up with either a "muumuu" or something that bulges and gapes. Bring it on!!!!

I would love to see a show for 12+...

I'm 81, 5'4" and wear sometimes XXlarge or a womans X1...I would like something to wear that covers a stomach that pertrudes a little.

Speaking as a healthy 12+ woman I'd say its about time. Most women are size 12 + and to see stick figures representing the majority of women is a joke.

If I thought Tim Gunn was honestly and sincerely interested in showcasing and promoting plus size models instead of doing it due to a lack of high show ratings or lack of other show ideas -then I would truly applaud him. I am a plus size woman and I truly believe that the average size woman should be represented on a large scale in the fashion industry. Will be watching to see how he approaches it !! Choice of models as well as the level and quality of clothing designs will be important. Best wishes.. Again, I will be watching you !!

I am a size 12 usually, but I enjoy seeing fashions on the smaller, tiny models. Fashions look really look great on them, not so much on my size.

  • Jeannie - 10 years ago

I would imagine that the part of the viewers that voted "gimmiky" are the folks that are "barbie builds". The rest of the world thinks it would be AWESOME! for the designers to make "REAL" people clothing. LOVE THE SHOWS, BUT THEY ARE THE BEST WHEN TIM GUNN IS IN THEM!!

Great idea, get the designers TOTALLY out of their comfort zones. Still want fresh pretty clothes and some edgy designs. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful. There are Plus Size models in the business. I think the mannequins (as they used to be called ) should not be women off the street for an entire show of plus size clothes. Except of course for the "real person" challenge. This way the models won't be self conscious and the designers can get used to their model's figure and get comfortable with designing cool clothes. I hope heidi and the powers that be make this happen.

I think it is a wonderful idea! There are many beautiful women size 10and up. How do you get to be on show?

  • Kim - 10 years ago

This would be fantastic! After seeing the designers (especially the male designers) get irritated when they have to work on normal women, it would be great to have a full season empowering women not just in spite of their size, but because of it!

  • barbara - 10 years ago

I think it is great. I have always been offended during the season when they design for normal people & are downright rude to those who they think are not worth designing for.

  • Donna Green - 10 years ago

I think it is an excellent idea, since the majority of the population is considered overweight or obese. I would love to see at least one episode take on the oddly shaped woman. For example; extremely large breast with a very tiny waist, hip and legs, or maybe an extremely large bottom with and extremely small breast or even very small legs with a very large hips all the way up to the neck. I see so many "odd" shaped women living here in Mississippi it would be so worth watching. Thanks Tim!

  • Lirado1 - 10 years ago

It would help to counter what younger girls see as beautiful. Eating disorders continue to grow in both young girls and boys.

  • Susann - 10 years ago

Beyond genius......I want to be in it.........Tim Gunn knows the true reality of the fashion world, and that includes sizes that go beyond 10!
I've been modeling for over 30 years in the plus size world, after all this time, I'm still not seen as doing something as valuable as a smaller model.....I can't wait to see Tim's ideas, and sure would love an opportunity to be a part of something so ground breaking.

  • Tina - 10 years ago

I'm not a plus size woman but I think this is long over-due! I think fashionable clothing should be available to any size women! Right now its and "un-tapped" market and rather than design "couture" for the rich and size 2's - they'd be smarter to design something for "real/everyday" women!

  • Ann Edwards - 10 years ago

    please correct--"can't wait."

  • Ann Edwards - 10 years ago

what a fantastic idea, ca wait to see the fashionable garments that will be made. I am age 60+, love fashion, looks good at size 16, wish I could be part of this.

  • Bi - 10 years ago

Finally!! I would love to see this happen, shows that everybody isn't a size 1 or 2 everybody is beautiful!

  • beth - 10 years ago

Honestly, I don't even think of size 12 as plus size. More like size 18 or so. I mean you can still get size 12 clothing in the regular women's department in most major clothing stores.

  • Alan Halsall - 10 years ago

    Pathetic.

  • Astra - 10 years ago

Amen! The *average* woman in the U.S. is a size 14. I'm tall and large-chested, so no matter how I starve myself there's no way I'd ever fit into anything smaller than a 12. I would *love* to see some fashions designed for people like me! Fashionable clothing that isn't always too short in front or too tight across the chest... yes, please, do this!

  • Cortney - 10 years ago

Omg this would be great for all us plus size people wanting the world to know that curvy women are sexy too!!!

  • Shondra - 10 years ago

I have been waiting for *them........

  • Shondra - 10 years ago

I have been waiting for then to do this. I was talking to my mom, last season, and I was telling her that it would be cool if they did a plus size season. I'm plus size and I love fashion. I think that with the surge of all the plus size fashion bloggers doing what they love that people are now opening their eyes that we are still people too.
