Is the Suarez ban of four months, including 13 Liverpool games, fair?

If you go around biting people like a dog, then be prepared to be treated like one. Simple.

Look at all the moral police out in force! Not one person has ever brought up the amount of times he has been kicked, elbowed, baited on the field. I should remind you that this is also bad sportsmanship and definitely NOT part of the game. In saying this I do not condone his behaviour. Also, he has not killed nor maimed, nor ended someones' career prematurely. There are other players who have bitten an opponent (Defoe) and got a yellow card, been caught on camera saying a racist remark (half of Suarez's suspension despite there being no evidence of this anyway), Roy Keane ending 2 players' careers through extremely violent conduct, Zidane's headbutt in 2006 and the list goes on. Who out of these players were suspended for as long as Suarez for things that are way more serious than a bite on a shoulder? Once again, i do not condone his behaviour and should obviously be punished.

Although a fantastic talent Luis has got a mental issue that he clearly needs to deal with. A ban from playing internationals, absolutely! The ref should have sent him off, consulted both the linesman and the fourth official. Ban him from all football? Nope, I reckon no wages for two months at least, including sponsorship and endorsements and that would teach him more rather than not playing. Fifa should've also offered some sort of counseling, if not Fifa maybe Liverpool. He didn't kill an opponent, he didn't end anyone's career or injury an opponent for for a lengthy time and to be honest I've seen far more worse actions by professionals (Leonardo elbow on Tab Ramos World Cup 1994 - result a fractured skull; Tassotti elbow on Enrique same Worls Cup - result broken nose; Roy Keane's high tackle on HÃ¥land - ending his career completely)..but the bottom line is that Luis has done this twice before and also been branded a racist and not once has he apologized for any of his actions...someone get this bloke some help now

Agree with most of the comments. There is NO place in any sport, let alone 'professional, elite' sport for that sort of behaviour. Was he raised by wolves or something? Did he not learn as a child that you don't bite people? It is assault. This is his THIRD infraction for biting someone - In some countries, you get an automatic jail/gaol sentence for a 'third-strike offence. If he can't control those sort of impulses, he either deserves a sentence, and/or anger-management treatment! At the very least, he should be barred for life (or at least until the time he can unswearvingly prove he's been cured of this behaviour!

Personally I think he should have a life ban. There's no room for that sort of thing anywhere in any sport. It sets a bad example for kids and is just down right wrong. The Uruguay FA should hang their heads in shame too for not taking a tough stance. Any fool could see what he did on the television tape & quite frankly the ref should cop some sort of sanction for not taking more decisive action on the field at the time.
A most disappointing display at the highest level of the "Not So Beautiful Game".

As a neutral soccer fan from Australia, the only things I find disgracefully and shameful are the English media and fans, as well as FIFA management

I think he should have been banned for life... this is at least the third time he has done this, absolutely disgusting, who does he think he is..... sport has no place for idiots like this

Someone should have cracked down on this years ago. He is mollycoddled wherever he goes and Liverpool could easily have read him the riot act for his previous behaviour - I don't feel sorry for them at all. How anyone can defend him is beyond me, this was such a clear cut case of savage brutality. There are millions of kids all over the world watching this World Cup. The message to them should be loud and clear: this type of behaviour is not tolerated in football.

It is being said he Suarez is being treated like a dog. I treat my dog better than I would treat him. My dog does not bite. Why has he not been banned for life. This is his 3rd time. Is he such an animal that he does not understand normal human behavior. Uruguay pull your head out of the sand. this man is a blight on your country and you should be ashamed of him. Not trying to protect him.

CANNIBALISM is against the law in Brazil. Suarez broke an important criminal law which exists in every civilized country. NO CANNIBALISM. What should have happened is the Brazil SWAT team should have stormed the field immediately, placed Suarez in a straitjacket (for crazy people), and hauled him off to jail. Brazil should have then revoked his VISA and expelled him from the country, directly from jail. Suarez, the psycho criminal, should be deemed persona non grata everywhere but his own country, because this is the third time he has bitten someone.

Crazy people often engage in biting incidents. Do we want to read one day soon that Suarez has completely lost his marbles and killed someone? This is why things like this are a crime. Since Suarez has completely failed to govern himself, the laws of every civilized country now should step in and protect the innocent people who will be present around him.

CANNIBALS should go directly to jail. They can receive treatment right there in jail, without hurting anyone else. Do not call this criminal a soccer player. He is not a soccer player. He is a CANNIBAL, and he is a CRIMINAL.

he is a fucking dog, he bites!!

  • Craig - 10 years ago

If he was really treated like a dog he would of been put down after his second bite!

  • Eric - 10 years ago

He should be banned for life. Suarez is a repeat offender who has consistently flaunted football rules, regulations and good sportsmanship norms at both International and club level. His intentional handball at the 2010 World Cup that robbed Ghana of advancement was a disgrace and showed to the world the true character of Suarez

How can the Uruguay FA have the fortitude to say its harsh when its the third occasion that Luis has dined at on the pitch! And to suggest the Italian thrust his shoulder into his mouth, man come one which planet are they on! To Luis grandma yes he is a dog

So 4% of the people who responded to the poll are from Uruguay.

  • Rudy - 10 years ago

There should also be a criminal charge for assault. He is endangering life. Who knows what he's picked up biting people.

  • Joel Parker - 10 years ago

He's been doing it since his junior playing days, apparently. His first coach said he's been doing it ever since he was an ankle-biter.

  • Andrew - 10 years ago

To Adam gets what he deserves 3 bites and your out. Doesn't deserve to be allowed to play any where. Good on FIFA this is not acceptable behavior.

It's an absolute joke that Liverpool FC are made to suffer from what Suarez did. There has always been a clear line between International fixtures and Club fixtures.

FIFA, prepare for a lawsuit from LFC seeking compensation for damages.

The monkey should be banned for life. He's an obvious repeat offender who lacks the mental ability to learn from his previous punishments. He should be making sure there's a shopping trolley ready for me when I get to the supermarket.

  • hans olsen - 10 years ago

Hopefully he is suspended without pay. Why should Liverpool FC be punished, when the incident did not occur in a Liverpool game.

  • CC - 10 years ago

He should be banned for life from all sporting matches and events.
