Children create lots of art be it colouring books and staying within the lines..or blank pages of own designs..fine balance is expected. Like everything else variety keeps them interested not stiffled ! Children express skills in a variety of ways and heaven forbid they are not allowed colouring books or painting by numbers etc..tut tut !

I agree that children should be given blank piece of paper to draw their own pictures as it helps them be more creative and helps them understand with what they're doing. I currently volunteer in a nursery and every time I sit with a small group of children at the creative table I ask them do they want to draw a nice picture for mummy daddy nanny grandad etc and they go ahead and draw one and since its coming towards Christmas most of the children drew Christmas tree or some Christmas presents even though there were pre-drawn one's there but they still preferred to draw it as the children in the setting where I volunteer prefer drawing there own pictures than colouring one that's already drawn for them and their parents / carers don't care what it looks like apart from the child has taken their time to draw a pretty picture for them.

I totally agree as someone studying childcare in uni i think its important for children to create their own work and be an individual, to have their imagination seen and for it to be theirs completly to be proud off. The drawings i see from 3/4 year olds are great and they colour in this themselves!
I agree that it is important for children to create their own drawings .(I was an art teacher for 11 years before having my own children) However I gave them colouring books as well. They did spend more time working on their own drawings though! I think children should experiment as they like.

This is ridiculous! Children have been usin colourin books for years with no harm, everyone complains children are always in front of screens nowadays well this is why! Because everything ia bad for you nowadays apparently
