I have read a number of Professor Steadman's Greek texts and would now welcome a new Latin text. Of those selected my preference would be for Tacitus Annales 1. Professor Steadman's texts are of enormous benefit to those reading on their own or with classes. A major "Thank you" is due to him for all his efforts. I can think of little else that would so encourage reading classical texts. He eliminates much of the learning "pain".

I am very much in favor of the Attic dramatists. I understand that the texts are not always as sound as the Iliad or Herodotus. Yet we read in a class at NYU (Continuing Education) the Antigone using your commentary. We never could have done it without your incredible edition. This fall we plan to use your edition of the Oedipus. This is something incredible. Therefore, I would respectfully to Professor Steadman that he consider some other plays. Euripides is probably the next step. Medea is mentioned. I would also suggest Sophocles' Electra. It is no more difficult than the Antigone. It is also a great play, too. And is an approach to the Oresteia. From student days, I am a big fan of Thucydides, who is somebody we especially need now. Michael Shanahan

Thank you for all you've done to bring Greek to self-taught amateurs such as myself! Any chance of a Thucydides commentary?

These Commentaries and editions are just wonderful. Everybody should be grateful to Prof. Steadman.

These commentaries are excellent and have inspired me to change my usual reading habits. I used to annotate texts by hand or fill up an exercise book but now I do it all electronically, creating vocab lists under the text. Hopefully this will make rereading a whole lot easier as I wont have to decipher my handwriting.

    Thank you.

Must say, this is fantastically democratic! I recommend these editions to everyone I meet who may find them useful.
