it is important to the psyche of india that it has before it a compelling story of the architects of india, and its unity, specially in view of the fact of its extraordinary diversity. there is figure(s) more appropriate than patel who rose to the challenge - in the trying days of independence and partition - like the king bismarc of germany (who united the disparate german dominions).
namo has used his great imagination behind this solemn project of monument of unity, and is making it a tourist attraction as well. for the indian people, it will like visiting abraham lincoln's monument for the americans who throng the place in thousands - every weekend.

This is must need. Do not know why some of the people are not able to see the importance of this. A nationlistic hero is remembered here. A great opportunity to keep India united. This is pretty much done by all countries in the world. This need to happen. Let's get rid of all the fake Gandhi monuments and have the real heros coming in. This initiative should be taken only as a symbolic plotical move. Everything in India is named after Nehru - Gandhi family. Someone coming to India may think this country of 1.2 billion is owned by a family. Sadar Patel statute signals giving of India back to people.

This allocation may sound to please PM but it is not so. Sardar happens to be from Gujarat but he is the symbol of strength and courage for youth all over India. He is the architect of united India which we see today. Had he been listened then entire J & K would have been one more state of India and not the one with special status and divided. Erection of statue will always remind youth Sardar's ideal and will generate strong desire in youth the importance of remaining united and strong.

I agree and very much like to have Sardar Patel statue, but don't understand why it costs 200 crore. For the same cost, I think we could have smaller versions of all of our freedom fighters like the ones along the tank bund road in Hyderabad.

Look we should first know that the cost for this project is not 200cr but 2500cr which will be collected by PPP... And the man in question deserves a remembrance that the foundation stone for nation we live in was laid down by none other than Sardar Patel.... The govt could have done this like Maya govt had done, spending thousands of Cr... But he has given this project in PPP. lets not be board towards those who last down their life for us.

Just to add on to this healthy discussion, most of us do not know the actual cost of putting the Statue of SARDAR PATEL is Rs 2500 Cr and not Rs 200 Cr. what is being debated in this forum. Most of the funding for the Statue (symbol of National UNITY) would be sourced through PPP model and voluntary donations raised by nationalist organizations, Citizens/NRIs, corporates, etc. & Rs 200 Cr. is Govt. TOKEN amount as contribution to overall Rs 2500 Cr. budget, so lets be very clear on the numbers before we blow this out of proportion. In the ex-UP Govt. Mayawati had spent thousand of crores to instill statues of Ambedkar, Kanshiram and HERSEF and no one ever talked about this.
Also SARDAR PATEL staue is our nation's symbol of UNITED and EMERGING India and not restricted to Gujarat as mentioned by some of our friends!

Do not mix feelings with pragmatism. Lets keep both seperate. If budget allocation on building a certain statue is to be considered as wastage of money then there are many other things to be concerned about. Why build concrete roads in metros? Why not just have tar roads and spend the excess amount on welfare of the poor. Remember you cannot feed your stomach by eroding your teeth. We need to create seperate provisions for infrastructure and welfare of people. India needs to progress on all fronts. Hence making some allocation on indicativeness is welcome.

there are so many statues of useless gandhis all over the place! gandhi DIVIDED our country into pieces. gandhi also sat on a fast to give 60 crore rupees to pakistan. Then pakistan used that money to attack kashmir! on the other hand, Sardar Patel UNITED more than 500 princely states to form the union of india! Why cant we the people of United Bharat have a grand monument for our beloved Sardar Patel? 200 crores is peanuts before his stature and what he has done for our country! Also its aptly named STATUE of UNITY! Also Modi being gujju will surely recover much more than 200 crores via tourism to this grand place!!!

I object this move because there are lot many govt schools in india where basic facilities won't be there . Poor kids r not getting proper amenities like toilet, benches, black boards & even shelter. this amount could be given for providing basic facilities for poor kids(underprevilaged kids). Let them make statue of sardar patel but not this much big or spend money like this

Most of the airports and roads and other monuments in India are in the name of Gandhi's. There must be not one but many such monuments in the name of sardar patel or other freedom fighters to mark their efforts in making us free. Let everybody know that we are now free from Gandhi's Regime.

Sardar patel statue is not a state issue as mentioned by my friend, it could have been given a second priority.in the vote on supplimenrary budget.
