Dr.Singh as FM under PM Sri Narasimharao opned the Indian Economy, a bold and vibrant step. The same person as PM for ten years could not find any right road for simple reason that he did not mind to be a puppet PM in spite of all his financial knowledge, experience not only of his but of two good financial brains in Sri Pranab Mukerjee and Sri .P. Chidambaram. They were compelled to tow the line of 10, Janpath. Their loyalty to Sonia family came first than their loyalty to the Nation. They were doing this under the cover of compulsions of coalition government turning blind and deaf towards corruption in 2G, Coal,Asian Games scandals.

The least Dr. Singh could have done was tendering his resignation as PM accepting his failures which he eventually did after devastating election results again to save the Ghandhi family.

Definitely there is road map in this budget.First thing Modi government has shown priorities in infrastructure, agriculture, development of small cities, relief to salaried class, selective policy in FDIs and continuation of some UPA schemes with some modifications.

Modi government is not hesitant in taking unpopular and harsh decisions where as Dr. Singh was not taking any decision at all except looking towards the so called High Command.

The people of India have given a choice to Congress and Dr. Singh to sit and watch the performance of the new government for the next five years and nothing more than that.

Marvellous budget. Boost for manufacturing and encouragement to Agriculture sector (permanent solution to food inflation) and reduction of tax burden on middle class (UPA milked us like cows). I love PPF increase, safe Tax free money. Best budget ever.

OVER ALL IT IS OK BUT THERE IS NO FUNDS ALLOCATION FOR ANDHRA PRADESH DEVELOPMENT.

  • Tanvir Cheema - 10 years ago

Nothing and nothing is sufficiently done yet again to help the poor and dying farmers, farming sector and nothing done yet again to curb corruption.

The jurnos should have asked him what is the outlay or direction that he has created in the last 10 years ....the prob with our politics is we have so many people to criticize the Govt policies ..but we hardly find any leader who suggests alternative approch.

  • Hony Capt (Retd) S Murugesh - 10 years ago

Sir, in my opinion the overall budget is OK. One should think of the whole population of our country but not individual. It will be hardly possible for any one to satisfy everyone who is thinking of one self. Infact I wounder about the comments of Mrs Sonia and Mr Rahul Gandhi. I think they will remain naive even if they continue in politics for some more decades. Let us wish Mr Modi's Govt to take no cognisance of such poor comments of Congress pundits and fulfil the genuine aspirations of citizens of this country. I also congratulate THE TIMES GROUP (Especially Mr Arna Goswamy) for relentlessly working as a true journalists.

What a strategy planning Modis goverment has great planning on deliberating the team their job profile and monitoring them so that they are on track , Initially it will be dificult for India to come up from the crissis that the UPA government gave to the people of India , But we can see that we are moving in the right track and right direction . Its better that the UPA government do not speak as their time has gone when they were supposed to do something for the nation they were busy doing nothing now nobody wants to listen to them . Sometime i feel ashamed that a small country whose population is just 25 % of us are doing wonders in their segment and were we stand so now please let the new government prove themself and am sure they will come 100% on trust with people of india and astrong India will be re build .

Although I like the budget presented by FM overall. But I don't see anything for Environmental pollution and environmental issues in the country. Country is in the dire need to address those issues if growth and industrialization is seen imperial.
I would also like to know when they set aside a fund how this fund is allocated statewide.

Man Mohan Singh was given two mandates by the people of India and his budgets were lacklustre. As a famous economist he could have taken the economy to greater heights. But, the misconceived misconception that through welfare, read subsidies, the people of India would vote for them. Was all wrong. Today, people want growth and jobs to be created and it has all been spelled. However, some of today's pronouncements are going to take time to fulfil. Still. there is a lot of feel good factor in the budget, which was not there in the UPA's budgets.

  • Ajit - 10 years ago

With due respect to our former Pm. He has just shown his frustration and has done his duty being in opposition. This poll show that maximum number of yes are there in favor of the FM, he should maintain his dignity after a decade i am seeing a good budget.

    Stay Happy.

Peoples of India have given to you (Mr Manmohan Singh) 10 years to implement your mind to do the best as PM and as economist. What you have done we got and you also got on 16 may as general elections result. So please don't disturb to new government to do some much required correction for better economy and better for Indian peoples.

And when he has started to talk he is talking rubbish like what he just said! It's better he stays Maun Mohan singh that he has been for the last 10 years!

  • Seshadri Kulkarni - 10 years ago

There is indeed a roadmap and milestones. Milestones being reducing the deficit to 3% and return to growth in 3 years. Can't expect to miracles to happen after last 5 years of inaction. What's presented in the Union Budget looks good; just hope that the govt executes well. The one big negative in the entire budget is the significant amount budgeted for Sardar Vallabhai Patel Statue. While honoring our freedom fighters and great leaders is important but I feel those same leaders, had then been alive, would have liked to see the money spent on more urgent things.

    Respected Dr. Manmohan Singh,
Perhaps you did not get the MEMO. This is called house cleaning - we are not going on a road trip.
We do have the house plans if you would like that.
Please let us know at the earliest convenience. As has been the practice we are sending a carbon copy of this communication to Srimati Sonia Gandhi for her divine digression.
    Thanks
    A. Jaitley

I respect Dr.Manmohan but not his stupidity. Let us refrain from making any un wanted comments since the mother son combination had made us beggars

  • satish - 10 years ago

Sonia says: NDA is following all schemes of UPA. Does she mean that all UPA govt schemes should be scrapped? Does she mean that all upa schemes are bad enough to be scrapped? She is commenting for comments sake and opposing for opposition sake, have no vision. God save us from these cheats.

The budget is middle class friendly. They have allocated funds for rural water development and for girl child and women a very positive and wise step. Of the past 64 years from 1950 BJP had ruled only 4 years under Atalji when it took them 3 years to bring down inflation from 10% under congress to 3% when they were voted out and increase growth from 4% to 9% when they left. It takes time to clear the 60 years of mess, corruption, scams and money being siphoned out of economy to set the economy in correct track. This is only the first budget wait for three more and then U will have the ache din. It takes time to first clear the mess and then reset the mess on the correct path of growth, development and good days. We all have experienced bad days for 60 years at least give NAMO some time to show what he wants.

  • Mona Pradhan - 10 years ago

It's jumping to conclusions. Rather than just talk it's better to act . The congress has justbeen ggiving fundas which it has no intention to follow. To clean the mess which congress has left us in is going to be a slow and painful process.

  • Common Man - 10 years ago

It takes us no where. It is by the person who does not have the knowledge of the reality. In our country people blindly follows the sweet talk.

  • ravishankar - 10 years ago

How can an ex PM and Fin Minister say this?. I think he has not read the budget fully or Congress has made it a point to say this?

  • Subramanian - 10 years ago

The former PM is yet to come out of the trance which lapsed into under Sonia's stewardship! Wake up Mr. MM Singh! Sonia has no control over you now!

Things that should be done have a mention and its all good there. These are the goals which by themselves are generally good. However, how are you going to achieve them is important. I do not see anything here so far which is going to attract lot more investment. there are no guidelines or steps which will betaken to achieve those numbers. Creating numbers on paper is easy anyone can do it.
