Which Pony has the Best Character Specific Episodes? (EX: Lesson Zero for Twilight, Wonderbolt Academy for Dash)

Pinkie Pie in Pinkie Apple Pie.

  • Sploich - 10 years ago

My favorite episode of the entire series is still Call of the Cutie.

  • Breezewing - 10 years ago

As great as Rarity's episodes are, I decided to go with Pinkie pie, mostly because of Party of one. I really liked that episode because it provided a great insight into Pinkies mind and her stability.

  • riniet2 - 10 years ago

    This poll stinks!

  • Audunis - 10 years ago

    @ Kicks McGee
Truthfully, Rarity should be number 1. An argument could be made for Pinkie after S4 but Rarity's episodes have consistently outclassed all the others'. Rarity just sadly is not that popular even after a stellar 4th season where she broke new ground as a supporting character (which was her weakest area). So giving her credit is too much to ask of this fandom.

  • Kicks_McGee - 10 years ago

@anon: Chill, man, I'm just joking around. ;) What is it with anons lately? Though, I do disagree with this opinion. Rainbow Dash is cool and all, but I'd rate pretty much every Rarity episode over pretty much every Rainbow Dash episode. Pick literally any two. It's hard to compete with Rarity episodes.

  • anon - 10 years ago

@Kicks_McGee: So what if more peope like Dash episodes over Rarity episodes? They're not wrong for having an opinion. This poll really needs to end now, though. It's been going on too long.

  • Kicks_McGee - 10 years ago

Rainbow Dash is above Rarity now?! Well, this poll is officially a failure, we can all safely disregard it.

  • Audunis - 10 years ago

Yea, people are voting based on a handful of episodes that resonated with them or voting based on the pony in question.
Kind of a dumb way to do it but whatever.

Dash's and Pinkie's episodes are the ones people complain about the most and outside of LZ Twi's are kinda mediocre unless we count two parters

  • anon - 10 years ago

@ Tina: There are no overrated episodes. Everyone has their reasons for liking something and it doesn't make them wrong just because you don't agree.

  • Tina - 10 years ago

Applejack's, only hers. The others are either overrated or full of mistakes, with a feeew exceptions though.

  • Rune - 10 years ago

Testing Testing 123 was awful and offensive, especially because of some fans.

  • Pony Paradox - 10 years ago

I chose Rainbow Dash, specifically because I believe Testing Testing 1 2 3 was the strongest episode of MLP to date... and that, for me, is saying a lot. It was cute, it was relevant, and it had a moral with important social implications. Rainbow Dash was at her best, and she didn't even need to race someone or sonic rain-boom to accomplish that - she just had to be herself, and it was beautiful.

Not only do we get some canonical lore to feast upon, we also get a more accurate description of what the wonder-bolts are all about.

Rainbow's frustration, and then depression and self-deprecation, are very real results of modern schooling practices. Everybody learns in a different way, and while this concept in and of itself is nothing new, I personally feel that the presentation within this episode is surprisingly fresh, original, and realistic. Rainbow reacts quite realistically to her situation, and in fact, I have known many children, teenagers, and even adults who react in exactly the same manner.

Another aspect about this episode I loved was how the entire community came together in the end to help Rainbow Dash. While this is an extreme example, I personally believe that it is the responsibility of the community to help each other, and to be there for each other. When Twilight gave the re-cap on how Rainbow learned all of the test material, I actually cried a little.

On top of all that, the episode was fun, cute, and never preachy. Each character got a moment in their glory, as they tried to teach Rainbow Dash using a method that would work for them. In particular, I enjoyed Pinkie Pie's nineties-style rap sequence, and Fluttershy's incomprehensible animal play. Rainbow Dash goofing off during Twilight's lessons was also a unique joy, in a scene which perfectly illuminated several of both characters most endearing qualities. I don't know what I enjoyed more: Rainbow rocking back and fourth on her stool, Spike and Owlicious taking part in an impromptu bit of music, or Twilight playing the part of teacher, geeking out one minute and then getting frustrated the next when she realises tat Rainbow isn't paying attention. When twilight looked into Rainbow's textbook and the centrefold doodle of Twilight folded out, I broke into hysterical, childish giggles.

So, uh, yeah. I chose Rainbow Dash, because she got my favourite episode of My Little Pony to date.

    >'Tis poll
    >No Princess of the Night
    Oh, c'mon!

  • anon - 10 years ago

    @Gouranga: That she is.

  • Gouranga - 10 years ago

    Rainbow Dash best pony.

  • dholland662 - 10 years ago

Under what metric is Rarity not on top? Her focus episodes and episodes shared with other ponies are all great.

  • MarcoED - 10 years ago

Sound pretty hypocritical, Gokudomatic. If so then I can definitely understand why some people are offended by Derpy's popularity for example. I didn't understand it before, but now it all makes sense. My cousin is crosseyed, clumsy and bullied for that reason while Derpy is popular for it? Yes, it certainly makes very much sense why some people hate the fanbase now.

And I would have to disagree, funny doesn't equal nice or bad. A girl I know is the funniest I know, but at the same time the nicest person among my friends.

  • Danielle - 10 years ago

@MioKana85: That- doesn't surprise me. I understand what you mean.

  • Danielle - 10 years ago

@Gokudomatic: That would make sense if Fluttershy wasn't popular. Most people I know the nice ones are the funny ones, anyone else is avoided and their 'jokes' tend to be offensive.

  • Gokudomatic - 10 years ago

Danielle, I'll tell you why, on my perspective. It's because the show is mostly about comedy. And in comedy, the nicest and most friendly ones are boring. What makes the show so popular is the breaking of conventions. And so it implies characters with quirks, or even stronger mental disorder/trauma. Of course I love Rarity in the show, but I'd hate someone like her in real life.
For instance, the episodes I liked the most include the ones with mental breakdown (lesson zero, party of one, too many pinkies, galloping gala, art of dress). Why? Exactly because before the breakdown, the character has a development that I find very interesting.
But it's not the only reason I like this show. I like episodes where nopony get crazy too. Myself, I find the Twilight's ones most entertaining, closely followed by Rarity's ones for their depth.

  • Kai - 10 years ago

While not my favourite pony I had to vote for Pinkie episodes because hers are always musical, and the music is always one of the best parts of the show.

  • MioKana85 - 10 years ago

@Danielle: I know what you mean. I had a friend who’s just like RD it’s scary. The girl was rude, always had to get things the way she wanted, always dissing ‘uncool’ things, never was friends with people for who they were and expected them to do or like whatever she did, and so on. The only difference is that Rainbow Dash LEARNS, my former ‘friend’ never did or never even tried. I can’t stand Rainbow Dash because she remind me too much of that fake of a friend and it brings too many bad memories, I hope my former friend will learn sooner or later too because if she doesn’t people will keep avoiding her. She has no friends and while it’s no surprise I hope she’ll learn because I still think no one should be friendless.

  • Danielle - 10 years ago

I really don't understand why the popular ponies are popular as those traits is either hated or avoided in real people. I know two girls exactly like Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle and everyone who becomes their "friends" is either uncomfortable around them (Twilight) or keep offend, being rude and mean (RD). I know about people who's very similar to most of the ponies so they ARE relatable, in my group of friends "the Applejack" is the most liked in the whole college I'm at. But I'm so surprised why in this show it's so...opposite. My favorite pony is Rarity because she's funny and she reminds me of a friend I lost, I like her episodes most. Applejack is on second place for me.

  • Dawn Morningstar - 10 years ago

Aw, I should have voted for poor Apple Bloom. She was my second choice anyway and she shouldn't be in last place (though I'm not sure who should be instead!). Plus, her voice is the cutest of any pony.

  • anon - 10 years ago

@TRU9ile: There are no overrated ponies. Everybody has reasons for liking their favorite pony. Just because you don't relate to their episodes doesn't mean the rest of us don't. Honestly, it's petty and shallow to call ponies overrated, not to mention annoying.

  • Orange Peel - 10 years ago

Scootaloo by a mile. She's had two episodes focused on her: "Sleepless in Ponyville" which is by far the best thing about S3 and "Flight to the Finish" which is among the best episodes in S4. I was pretty shocked she trailed by as much as she did.

  • Meg - 10 years ago

It seems like whenever Rainbow Dash has an episode about herself, she carries her lesson or whatever with her for every episode after. She's just very consistent. The opposite of that being Fluttershy. Her lessons are about being shy or fearful. And after each episode, she's still the same. But her name IS FlutterSHY so it's not like I am expecting her to change in that way, anyways.

  • smotly - 10 years ago

Scootaloo, easy, she had only 2 episodes, but both of them were awesome, rest of the charaters had 1 or more "letdown" episodes.

  • That Guy - 10 years ago

I actually went with Rarity on this one. She's not my favorite out of the bunch, but her episodes really make her as a character. There were too many episodes to really pick in this poll, but she's nothing without her focus episodes. Her supporting roles make her to be sort of bland with only some dramatic comic relief. In her focus episodes she becomes much more entertaining becoming rather clever in her own right, which isn't usually seen in her supporting roles.

  • Whatevs - 10 years ago

Rather than simply whinge I'm just going to list Rarity's focus episode

    Suited: 10/10 episode

    Adaps: 9/10 episode

    S&E: 9/10 episode

    RTM: 8/10 episode

Only 2 are about fashion. Fashion is referenced in the other 2 but only as a background detail

  • Whatevs - 10 years ago

I love how people say Rarity's episodes are too much about fashion while only half of hers are.

I could just as easily argue Pinkies are always about making people smile, Twilight all about books and learning etc etc

  • Raerity - 10 years ago

This poll is about best episodes and not consistently good episodes. For that reason I chose, Spike.

Equestria Games, Secret of My Excess, Inspiration Manifestation. All great Spike episodes.

  • Whatevs - 10 years ago

It is clearly Rarity. The others all have duds. She does not.

And IMDB agrees, out of all the focus and duet episodes she has the most consistently good ones

  • TRU9Ile - 10 years ago

Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash are overrated, their episodes as well as Fluttershy's are boring or impossible to relate to.

  • Smailer20 - 10 years ago

Scootaloo, for Sleepless in Ponyville. Surprised that didn't get more votes.

  • Gemini Jim - 10 years ago

I don't know who has the best episodes, but one thing I do know:

Spike is the butt monkey in his own episodes.

  • Lise - 10 years ago

Applejack. But that's the reason I'm an outcast in this fandom, all the people I meet are mean jerks.

  • Scoots - 10 years ago

It is kind of hard to choose, I like them all. However I think Twilight gets the best stories usually, and Applejack usually has great episodes too. As much as I love Fluttershy her episodes just seem to be repeats of the same thing over and over and she never really grows much as a character. Fluttershy is scared to do something, Fluttershy is crying, Fluttershy is a doormat, it gets a little old.

  • Kicks_McGee - 10 years ago

@Anon: Applejack acted "like an idiot" in those episodes because she goes way, way overboard when it comes to family. A lot like Twilight losing it over books and tests in Lesson Zero, etc. I agree they took it a bit far in places for comic effect, but it wasn't out of character. Meanwhile Daring Don't played fast and loose with the pony lore and spent most of the episode on long boring action sequences starring none of our established pony characters. It didn't even feel like an episode of the same show we usually watch, which is why I didn't enjoy it and call it a bad episode. But, to each their own.

  • Roderick - 10 years ago

Pinkie, writers ruined her character but not her episodes. Best pony gotta stay best pony somehow.

  • Anonymous - 10 years ago

@Kicks_McGee: also keep in your mind that... Applejack is actually... my least favorite of the mane 6, and the one in which I relate to the least (even less than Spike and the CMCs). And.... no offense but... I wouldn't really say that Applejack's good episodes are better to the RD's ones....

  • Anonymous - 10 years ago

@kicks_McGee:.... I counted FWF as an Applejack episode too... did you read what I wrote?

Besides about Daring Don't... think how you want, but come on now try to be more objective: Applejack was written like she was an idiot in AFR and STWOM, that's because I dislike those episode very much.

Twilight and Pinkie have only one dud each (Boast Busters for Twilight and Baby Cakes for Pinkie, even thought I don't dislike the latter), Rarity has none for now. RD has just Mare do Well and Rainbow Falls, Fluttershy has Stare Master and Breezies. Spike and Cmc's episodes are pretty love or hate, that's because they don't have many votes. So... I think the rank it's pretty much normal.

  • Kicks_McGee - 10 years ago

@Anon: Hey, no need to apologize for saying your opinion! That's what a poll like this is all about. I wouldn't use the term "objectively" though - I'm sure there are plenty of folks who think Daring Don't is 'objectively' bad, not good. It's really all subjective. Personally I count Daring Don't as the only episode of the whole show I would call truly bad. I even like Mysterious Mare-Do-Well much better than that one, personally. And I think it's unfair for you to count Fall Weather Friends as a Dash episode but then not count it as an AJ episode. :P Personally I just have an easier time naming favorite AJ episodes (Applebuck Season, Leap of Faith, The Last Roundup, SSCS6000, several of the paired episodes you mentioned), and I don't think Somepony to Watch Over Me and Apple Family Reunion were all that bad. And while I love some RD episodes (Sonic Rainboom, Best Pet, Read It & Weep), I don't rate them quite as highly as AJ's best, while Dash has the most meh episodes of any pony (MMDW, Rainbow Falls, Daring Don't). But you're entitled to disagree. ;) For the record, I actually voted for Rarity.

  • Anonymous - 10 years ago

@Kicks_McGee: uhm... I don't agree. Yesh RD got a pair of MASSIVE duds (Mare do Well and Rainbow Falls), but she also got Griffon off Brush, Fall Weather Friends, Sonic Rainboom, May the Best Pet Win, Read it & Weep, Wonderbolts Academy, Daring Don't (that I know some people hate it for the concept, but objectively talking is still a great episode) and most of all Testing Testing 1,2,3. All those episodes shows her in a great way and are all amongst my favorites So... I wouldn't say, that her episodes are the worsts.

Also, I don't agree that Applejack's episodes are the most consistents: TSSCS6000 is just ok, and Apple Family Reunion and Somepony to Watch over me are really bad. Most of the Applejack best episodes are the one where... she's paired with another character (Look Before you Sleep, Fall Weather Friends, Bats! and Pinkie apple Pie), as much I love The Last Roundup, I barely count it as a complete Applejack episode because she hasn't much screentime in it too... The only Applejack episodes I really loved so far are Applebuck Season and Leap of Faith.

I'm sorry to say it, but is simply what I think...

  • StonerGod - 10 years ago

    Applejack is underrated as usual...

  • Hazenkain - 10 years ago

Had to go with Fluttershy on this one, even though I would've loved to vote for Pinkie (my second choice). Fshy has so many great episodes, in fact I cannot name a single episode I haven't thoroughly enjoyed aside from "It Ain't Easy Being Breezies", from "Dragonshy" and her amazing outburst of bravery, going through "Putting you hoof down" with impeccable new characters such as Iron Will, "Hurricane Fluttershy" with outstanding character development in a comedic and really polished episode, "Keep Calm and Flutter On" bringing back Discord in a very chaotic attempt to reform him and all the way from the return of Flutterguy and the poison joke on "Filli Vanilli" (hurray for continuity!) to the current end of Season 4.

  • John Nobody - 10 years ago

In terms of shears numbers Twilight sort of wins out in all of this.

  • silvadel - 10 years ago

I had to think about this one. Several characters have had VERY strong character definition episodes. In fact the character definition episodes like Too Many Pinkie Pies, Filli Vanilli, Hurricane Fluttershy, Lesson Zero, It's About Time, Twilight Time(for the CMC), Suited for Success, Feeling Pinkie Keen. Actually I think Fluttershy has had the largest number of these episodes. (The two good ones mentioned plus Stare Master, Green isn't your color, A Bird in the Hoof, Putting Your Hoof Down, Keep Calm and Flutter on, It Aint easy being breezies, )

  • Kicks_McGee - 10 years ago

The current first three (Twi, Pinkie, Rarity) are acceptable, though Rarity should be on top. However Rainbow Dash is way too high - her episodes are generally the worst. Both Fluts and AJ have way better track records. Also the CMC should have been one option together. But seriously, Apple Bloom should have more votes - screw you guys.

  • Emptybee - 10 years ago

A toughie - they each have great episodes. But looking back on it only Rarity and the CMC don't have any bad* episodes. Since the CMC only have 2-3 episodes apiece, I went with Rarity.

*(even when bad, MLPFiM is pretty darn good)

  • anon - 10 years ago

Scootaloo had two of the best episodes of the whole series. When Rainbow Dash is the focus, she's a great character. It's between those two for me.

  • tenco1 - 10 years ago

I call shenanigans, every season is Twilight specific.

  • Isn't_it_amazing - 10 years ago

I think Scootaloo has really solid and mature episodes, for a filly. Of course Twily would win because she has the most episodes. But it's your opinion.

  • Somebrony - 10 years ago

My favorite pony is Flutters but as far as most intense character episodes go, not many come close to Twilight's for epicness... It's About Time, Lesson Zero, Pinkie Keen (the first part is all about Twilight's research obsession), etc.

The other characters had their own moments but few as epic as Twilight's.

  • Hector - 10 years ago

Applejack because of that season 4 episode where she helped Granny Smith from being to dependent of that tonic cause it a sad and hard thing to help with. A fan image of a Nirvana cover showed applejack trying to rescuing granny under water, while she swim after the bottle. That image won me over.

  • Don - 10 years ago

I like all the cast, Would like to see more colts to ballance out the population.
Sparity has it's softer points,Twi goin psyco, Pinkamania in party of one
Need a little more conflict betwen the 6 & Ponyville normal life in building their world.
So far its well writen & carried out.

  • MeandSamBFFL - 10 years ago

I'm glad the poll voters aren't as biased as they used to be. I kind of agree with the results. My favorite pony may be Fluttershy, but the order this list goes is pretty accurate. Particularly with Pinkie Pie, who's ONLY good moments are in her own episodes.

  • NellzDaBlackKing - 10 years ago

I chose Rarity because with all the episodes that's been solely about her, they turned out to be good episodes like Suited for Success or Inspiration Manifestation and with those episodes, she has the best character development in my opinion.

With Applejack, she had some bad episodes but I cant really call them her episodes because it's usually family oriented and that personally gets boring after a while.

With Twilight she has some good episodes but has some poor judgement when she's all by herself i.e. Lesson Zero and It's About Time. Whereas with Pinkie Pie, she has her good episodes and while they prove themselves to be quite hilarious, she's second to Rarity when it comes to character development.

Rainbow Dash episodes are usually Wonderbolts or loyalty episodes. I'm all up for her still trying to get into the Wonderbolts, but it is really getting boring. She made it into the Wonderbolt Training Academy, she passd the Wonderbolt history test, what else does she have to do? She's a capable flier and we all know this, I would have expected her to be the first one with her dream accomplished by now. And when it omes to loyalty, if it isn't a Rainbow Dash episode, you have to question her loyalty at times whether it's to her friends or to her principles and morals, she seems to forget about that at times and her loyalty episodes seems a bit forced to me just because she is the Element of Loyalty.

Fluttershy episodes has it's moments every now and then, I disliked It's Not Easy Being Breezy, I have mixed feelings with Green Is Not Your Color, and I loved Filli Vanilli and Putting Your Hoof Down, so it really depends what they're focusing with that episode with shyness and social awkwardness and how they execute it.

Sweetie Belle don't have a lot of episodes, but I do love them both, Applebloom is not the same page as Applejack, her's is mainly family oriented, but if it isn't I have mixed feelings about those episodes. Scootaloo is mainly CMC oriented, but she dos have some better character development to her than the rest of the CMC. And Spike, they're mainly bad episodes because the writers usually do a shitty job with his character, but he has had a couple of good episodes though like if you count Inspiration Manifestation, The Equestria Games, and Power Ponies was somewhat decent.

  • FelineFreak91 - 10 years ago

Besides! That insult isn't even true, why does idiots keep calling her a background pony anyway? Don't give me those ridiculous reasons you always do, they're so lame and it makes you seem dumb. I hate this fanbase, that's the sole reason I left.

  • FelineFreak91 - 10 years ago

I don't watch the show anymore after being spoken against and left out for saying it's unfair and that I'm not a fan of a popular pony like 'everybody else'. I only follow this site to see if the Applejack background pony insult (INSULT, NOT JOKE) will die, it hasn't yet so I still wont return. I watched the first season and a little more than half of the second.

  • Charlie - 10 years ago

Applejack, always. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash episodes tends to be boring to me, Twilight too sort of. Pinkie Pie episodes are annoying and unrelatable. Rarity episodes are... overdone (especially Inspiration Manifestation).

  • Anonymous - 10 years ago

Mmmmhhhh, you know, this is an interesting question:

Rarity so far is the only main character that doesn't have any bad episode, but even thought Pinkie and Twilight had a fail (Baby Cakes for Pinkie and Boast Busters for Twilight) their episodes are actually much better than Rarity ones. Fluttershy, RD and AJ had their fails however (Stare Master and Breezies for Fluttershy, Mare do Well and Rainbow Falls for RD and TSSCS6000, Apple Family Reunion and Somepony to Watch over me for AJ).

Spike and the CMCs instead deserve a better explanation. About Spike: I wasn't one of the people that hates Spike because "it's not a Pony" but at the same time, I've never been a big fan of him (the only episodes of him from the first 3 seasons I love are Secret of My Excess and Just for Sidekicks), but the S4 changed my mind on him, I really loved all his 3 episodes from this season, and now I've more respect for him.

About the CMCs: the only episodes from them I don't like are the ones where they search their cutie marks.... and they are just 3 (Call of the Cutie, Show Stoppers and Cutie Pox... Ponyville confidential instead barely count in this and I really love it), I really love all their other episodes.

Sums up everything, I think I choose.... Twilight.

  • AppleBucker - 10 years ago

AJ needs more votes, she & the CMC always have the BEST EPS!

  • Mutual - 10 years ago

Rarity. Suited for Success was fantastic!

  • Bam - 10 years ago

I don't think this question is fair, as some of these ponies get a lot more attention than others( though I am usually a fan of whoever keeps coming up with these polls.)

  • cosmicdash - 10 years ago

I think it's Pinkie pie, because there's Pinkie Pride, Party of One, and some others. Pinkie Pie is always written best when she has an episode mainly focused around her. Especially in Season 4.

Rainbow Dash is always focused around some type of training or sport, excluding Testing Testing 1 2 3.

Rarity is always like "fashun fashun fashun". Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with Rarity :P

Applejack and Applebloom are always either family related or CMC related. NO MATTER WHAT.

Sweetie Belle really has 1 or 2 episodes where it's focused around her.

Scootaloo is mainly always CMC related accept for Sleepless In Ponyville.

Fluttershy always has something to do with stage fright.

Spike is usually well written in his episodes. Though usually he is either being harassed, or humiliated in nearly EVERY episode he's been in, including the episodes focused around him.

Twilight doesn't really have that many Twilight focused episodes. There's Lesson Zero, It's About Time, And possibly Magical Mystery Cure? I guess that would count as a finale/premier, which I am not counting.

Thanks to those that read all my blabbering. Goodbye!
