I love animals so much & wish that EVERYONE had the same passion as I do! I grew up with cats & dogs & as a result-my brother & 2 sisters are just so loving towards them! One of them loved them so much that she went to school & became a worker in a vets office. I could go on about her but there's not enough room! my solution to this animal cruelty issue is to have all children go to a place & view what happens to animals when they are not taken care of! They would have to be told that all animals are beautiful & like them but are not able to talk like they do because they have their own language(s). I believe that by doing this it would make them aware of how animals are wonderful & will end up loving you back (especially dogs) & cats if they have the right make-up!

I believe that any cruelty towards animals should be prosecuted and sentenced as if the animal was a human being. I also agree with having a registry nationwide to keep the animals out of the hands of these people.

It never ceases to amaze me the depth of cruelty that a certain segment of "humanity" will perpetrate on those more helpless or disadvantaged than they. To my thinking, the abusers of animals need to be institutionalized. People who injure the helpless are either mentally I'll in some way or are socio- or psychopathic. A person with even a trace of empathy cannot look an animal in its eyes and not feel some kind of warmth and kinship. Those who abuse, neglect, or worse, torture animals, need either psychological help or they need to be taught a punitive lesson to send a message that the abuse of animals will not be tolerated by any civilized culture. The other side of protecting our fellow creatures is making certain our educational curriculum, starting in kindergarten, specifically addresses the respectful treatment of other creatures, and being responsible citizens in our world. In this way, if those values are not demonstrated at home, kids will learn about the compassionate and humane care of animals.

There should be an animal registry used for anyone who has abused/killed any animals. Anyone who deals with selling, adopting, etc., should be required to check this registry before giving anyone an animal, even farm animals. There should be prison time for people who abuse or kill animals. The punishment should fit the crime. Abuse alone should deserve some prison time, along with probation and fines after prison time served. Depending on what they did, even more prison time. We need to show that this is a serious crime. My neighbor shot and killed my Chihuahua just because he went into his yard and he didn't want him in the garden. He only received $175 fine and it will always be on his record. This was a small innocent dog who never offered to hurt anyone. The police informed him that he can't just shoot someone's pet because they were in his yard, but they told me this was the law and they couldn't do more. The law must be changed. I can see if an animal is coming at you to do you harm, then you should be able to defend yourself. But, this was a horrific case of animal abuse and a fine should not have been his punishment. All the poor animals who get abused and murdered every day is just sickening. Humans are losing their humanity. Our government only cares for itself, too. We must make these changes to make a difference. You see how our government cares for other countries and won't even help its own, much less helping defenseless animals. We are their voice. Something has to give.

Agree with Andrea comment, and whoever would be caught doing cruelty to any kind of animal should be punish severely and do time. The law should be the same that is for humans.

They are ALL equally important.Making the public and esp.the "powers that be", see that Animal Welfare DESERVES attention, and Animal lives are as important as OURS.That we are here to TREAT THEM HUMANELY, NOT LIKE TRASH TO BE "THROWN AWAY":((

anyone who could be deliberately cruel to an animal is not to be trusted around children or the elderly. This type of person should be forced to receive a mental evaluation for the protection of the people on the community in which he or she lives. Anyone who deliberately hurts an animal is very sick.

The laws should be changed, animals will not have any rights as long as the are considered property. Of course much harsher penalties for abuse and neglect are called for as well.

Just like people need a liscense to drive, I feel potential pet owners as well as potential parents to get a physcriatric evaluation as well as an exam. There are those who are fit and those who just are really and truly not.
