Bone Thugs are tight for sure, but up against the overall impact of JD? We got this one wrong.

  • N words - 10 years ago

The internet failed here...J-Dilla was a genius dude. :(

  • redant - 10 years ago

Why all the hate towards Bone. Krayzie and Bizzy Bone are two of the best to ever rap period!

  • Kevin - 10 years ago

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is the greatest rap group in hip-hop history

  • KoolKat518 - 10 years ago

I'm shocked at the hate that BTNH is getting right now. I can understand if you don't like them now. I can understand if you don't like their constant drama. But if you fronting on their music from 1994 to 2002 (Solo or Group), you must be on drugs. As far as flow, lyrics, that unique, original sound....they're easily top 4

  • Brookes - 10 years ago

Pick a random Slum Village/J. Dilla track and it's 2x better than everything Bone Thugs has ever done. (1 exception... Bone N' Biggie, "Notorious Thugs" which is gets tuned out after Big's verse. The only other Bone song I can even listen to is "1st of the Month")

I never liked Slum Village...but I really really hate Bone Thugs...one of the worst groups ever. I could never understand why people liked their music. It's absolutely ridiculous that they got a 3 seed. Goodie Mobb is 10 times better than them and I'm not a big Goodie Mobb fan either. I can't wait for these hacks to get voted out...

Bone Thugs should win this whole competition hands down! Definitely the most original hip-hop act of all time, and amazing longevity. They are still putting out amazing stuff.

  • Sir Rocc da Don - 10 years ago

SLUM village should have more votes cause of J.Dilla alone and I'm not even a fan of either group. That man changes lives around the world, this goes to show what little knowledge of real hip hop people have now a days.

  • GFunk - 10 years ago

Bone Thugs all day. I know Jalen knows hip hop but I think they missed one huge southern group. EightBall
&MJG. I'm from the south so I'm a little bias. Also no Coup.People been sleeping on them for years.

  • Mo786 - 10 years ago

Love both groups, completely different sounds and it's probably not fair to compare the two but I think Bone's body of work in the 90's gets it for them. Saying Bone are a gimmick for singing is ridiculous though, the same probably praise Mos Def, Cee Lo and Lauren Hill for the same thing. Why is it only a gimmick when Bone do it?

  • Dr. Shabazz - 10 years ago

This is apples and oranges, man.

Both groups brought something different but were great at what they did.
Bone carved out their own niche at a time ('94 to '97) when nearly all their rap contemporaries were legends or future legends as well. SV proved backpack rap could be smooth and raunchy and their production was stellar!! This should be alot closer.

  • smoke - 10 years ago

imma huge fan of both,....ANYBODY who thinks slum village is beating bone on ANY level, has lost their minds..... not even a good match... bone beat wu tang in vibe....yall kids dont know music

  • cam - 10 years ago

Point blank. Bone is the most INFLUENTIAL musical group of the last decade, smh, at these dumb ass comments bout bone not being lyrical and a pop group, bone has been slept on their entire careers and still have the most records sold than any group on this list, not to say album sales are everything, but it just goes to show how the media won't acknowledge bones greatness but the fans do!

  • DR - 10 years ago

Bone Thugs are WHACK. Ditch the singing novelty. Never considered them a prolific hip hop group, moreso a pop group for radio. Sorry.

  • vora - 10 years ago

People who think Bone Thugs only made weed songs obviously never listened to their albums. Their lyricism goes much deeper than that. DJ U-Neek might not be on Dilla's level, but his production never slouched either.

  • InternationalBubba - 10 years ago

I have always hated Slum Village. Maybe the worst rappers ever. What a waste of Dilla beats. Bone Thugs worked with Pac and Biggie. Nuff said!!

  • InternetApex - 10 years ago

Horseplop. Bone Thugs don't even belong in this tournament. Total gimmick. Wack beats. No lyrics just mumbling fools. They knock out Slum Village? Travesty.

  • SMD the MC - 10 years ago

c'mon this vote is terrible, Bone's music doesn't hold a candle to Dilla's production alone, and that's not even getting into how much better the lyricism is with S Villa

  • maTTadapT - 10 years ago

Slum Village never gets enough respect. That's why they stay a gem though.

  • Kemo - 10 years ago

This is tragic. Goes to show that lyrical content is not relevant when voting for this thing. Although BTH had good hits, they never put together a classic album that even comes close to Fantastic vol 2.

  • Sam123 - 10 years ago

Slum Vill is too nice and influenced some of the greatest out today. Give them some votes! RIP Dilla

  • David Amidon - 10 years ago

well, this is embarrassing. Bone Thugs n Harmony were the gangsta rap Das EFX, all style. if it weren't for the weed connotations they'd have been come and gone. that first EP and LP was alright but Slum Village was still putting out 4/5 LPs as recently as 2010, they had fucking J Dilla and Black Milk on the boards and Baatin, T3 and Elzhi on the lyrics. MAN. The Clipse getting an 8 seed against N.W.A. was sad (and Clipse should've easily won), Three 6 Mafia being forced to bow to OutKast, really a lot of tragedies all over this thing.

But this one just goes to show that for a lot of people, three or four mega hit singles really do trump three or four mega dope albums.

  • LamarMatic - 10 years ago

The only lower seed I voted for in this bracket. In my opinion, Slum Village put out way more good material than Bone Thugs ever did.

  • Eddy - 10 years ago

Bone is legit! They got that unique style and got that come up through Easy E. Bone had some sweet tracks...for the love of money, thuggish ruggish bone, shots to the double glock, thug luv, mo murda...and we haven't even gotten to the commercial hits like crossroads, 1st of tha month, days of our lives.

  • vora - 10 years ago

This was the toughest choice of the whole bracket for me. Hate to see either of these classic groups go out so early. Off the strength of Fantastic, Vol. 2 alone Slum Village probably deserves to be in the second round. And if DIlla and Baatin were still alive the music they coulda put out...smh. Just a very tough match up for Slum Village: two midwestern fan bases so they don't get as many regional loyalty votes, and Bone Thugs has always been by far the more commercially successful group.

  • djezi - 10 years ago

Granted, I don't like BTH. Still, Slum V should realty win this on output/dope records.

  • Rob - 10 years ago

Love Slum Village. especially when elzhi joined. elzhi is great. RIP J dilla. Tough matchup for them haha

  • Boobie Miles - 10 years ago

I'm not well versed with Slum Village outside of the track they had w/ Kanye back in the day.......but no way BTNH should not make it at least to the elite 8.......Tha Crossroads, 4 The Love of Money, Thugish Ruggish Bone, Days of Our Livez, First of the Month and so on......CLASSIC

  • Hakongle - 10 years ago

what a horrible matchup. Slum Village really should win this.

  • Jimmy Fromsac - 10 years ago

    R.I.P J Dilla R.I.P Baitin ....
