Ya'll were straight up wrong for pairing these two, come on now. For the record I think Fugees take the whole bracket

  • M - 10 years ago

De La No question........But, I loved my Fugee La......ha.....see what I did there.......and Lauryn simply went off the rails....shame.......

  • TA24 - 10 years ago

No Hot Boys or Big Tymers??????

  • Anthony - 10 years ago

    This is BULLSHIT!!!!!!

  • JRock (Detroit) - 10 years ago

Jacoby saying that the seeds don't matter needs to look at this matchup. No way Fugees is a five seed. The fact that they're losing to delasoul is even more of an upset. but the people are speaking smh

  • Maximus - 10 years ago

De La, easily. They been making classics, son!

  • Jesse J Henderson - 10 years ago

Love them both but DE LA SOUL should win this one. Fugees had 2 studio albums. De La Soul had 7 studio albums, their initial 3 albums (produced by Prince Paul) are truly classic status. I'll never diss The Fugees. They controlled mainstream radio and was one of the first groups to really integrate pure singing into their style of hip-hop. So, props to them, but DE LA SOUL is the winner. Plus, they are still making music and touring. Plus they put their entire catalog up for download earlier this year. 3 Feet High & Rising (1989), De La Soul is Dead (1991) and Buhloone Mindstate (1993) are there albums that I play from front to end (never randomize). Come of my favorites (also, listen to the lyrics): 'Jenifa Taught Me' (1989), 'Millie Pulled A Pistol On Santa' (1991), 'In The Woods' (1993) and 'Big Brother Beat' w/ Mos Def (1996). Posdanus is in my Top 20 lyricists of all time. Folks really need to listen to the words he writes and spits.

  • Trevor - 10 years ago

De La Soul over the Fugees was the only tough pick.

  • lance - 10 years ago

Dead Prez and Organized Konfusion don't make the tournament?

  • robert - 10 years ago

if EPMD loses in the first round, i'm done with jacoby

  • Brookes - 10 years ago

This choice is flat out hard and I'm mad at Jalen and Jacoby for making me choose. I saw the Beats, Rhymes, Life Documentary recently so I've been listening to more of both. Plus I'm from central NJ so I grew up on both groups. This one is like choosing to save your mom or your sister from a burning building.

  • Thomas - 10 years ago

Sure, The Fugees total output was small, but THE SCORE is one of the very best albums ever recorded. THE CHRONIC is the only better rap album...ever.
"Even after all my logic and my theory, I add a 'mothafucka' so you ign'ant niggaz hear me."

  • ihatework - 10 years ago

luv how this one is going to de la after the fugees started off strong and looked like they might take it :)

  • Ethan - 10 years ago

Give me 3 Feet High & Rising, Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, and AOI: Bionix over anything related to The Fugees. Shouldn't be close. De La has consistency, longevity and an overwhelming catalog filled with classics. Where are the real hip-hop fans at?

  • donyell - 10 years ago

three 6 mafia robbed as a 7 seed

and sad to see slum village getting destroyed by some dudes who were not really that good

  • josh - 10 years ago

Not too sure any DeLa album is superior to the Fugees masterpiece.

  • Rkh - 10 years ago

With no Gang Starr and if De La loses this bracket is broken. Just give the title to Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis in that case

  • Lantz Arrington - 10 years ago

The Fugees should be called the Lauryn's. she carried them!

  • Drederick Crate-em' - 10 years ago

To all of you voting for Fugees, need I remind you that you're not automatically drawn for a contest to win a dinner with Lauryn Hill. As others pointed out, this group vs. group. Geto Superstar, Carnival and Miseducation don't count. Fugees didn't even make it to 5 years, whereas De La Soul has been around for 25 years.

  • cramzy - 10 years ago

Im sorry, its hurting my heart that The Hot Boys are not in this tournament. Are you kidding me? Juvenile was 5x platinum artist. Lil Wayne is LIL WAYNE!!! and he was platinum when he was a Hot Boy. BG is platinum and his biggest single is BLING BLING!!! what? and Lil Turk had a gold solo. Mannie Fresh on the production! And they were in the same group. How do they not even make the tournament? They were bigger and had a larger impact then a lot of these groups on here. I dont get it.

  • with all due respect - 10 years ago

The Fugees' biggest hit was a cover (Killing Me Softly). That should knock them down a peg or two.

On the other hand... Lauryn is the only rapper repping the Ladies.

The fact that Salt n' Pepper isn't in this Tournament is all wrong.

  • Derz - 10 years ago

You gotta go De La here, as great as Lauryn and Wyclef were at their peaks...De La had that same level for longer.

  • Ernesto - 10 years ago

De La on longevity alone gets it. They made 5-6 albums that were no worse than good and at least one or two were teetering on the edge of classic.

  • Adam Cohen - 10 years ago

De la...and it ain't close. And as someone else mentioned...where's BDP?

  • steven - 10 years ago

CAN'T BELIEVE Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five aren't winning. They should win the whole damn thing just for Step Off.

  • Dee Phunk - 10 years ago

I can take a good guess of the average age of the people taking part in this bracket. I know this is all in good, clean, fun but if De La doesn't make it out of the first round, I'm going to be somewhat sad for a short period of time.

  • Corey Rice - 10 years ago

It's best hip hop GROUP, not "favorite album". Vote De La Soul!

  • ihatework - 10 years ago

this can't be right. are you fucking kidding me? de la has four classic lp's and the fugees had one big album and they still take the vote. almost as bad as the epmd/black star vote.

  • GFunk - 10 years ago

De La Soul was a great group but the Fugees Score album is probably one of the greatest albums period. Press play and let it ride. "You can't create you just wait to take" Ms. Hill

  • Dr. Shabazz - 10 years ago

This is so hard! Its like someone asking you to kill either your son or your mother! Okay, maybe not that extreme, but you get my point. The Score was probably one of the top 10 hip hop albums of all time, but then have De La to have dropped at least 3 arguable classic albums.
Gotta go with De La, not everything they did was classic, but NONE of what they did was wack. Blunted On Reality was kinda on the wack side whether people wanna admit it or not.

  • Dan - 10 years ago

Where's the love for DJ Paul & the crew!

  • Aaron D - 10 years ago

All these groups ... Legendary, but where are the Hot Boyz? The N.O. needs love too

  • Gordon - 10 years ago

It's crazy that these two are head-to-head. Either one would likely beat every other 4 or 5 seed.

  • bill hank - 10 years ago

on de real, there should be a mechanism that doesn't allow you to vote if you haven't heard one de la album...or like a fill in the blank, like "I am Posdnuos, I Be___________________"

  • Kevy Kev - 10 years ago

It's De La and not even close

  • jaymorz - 10 years ago

This is like Jay-z vs. Nas, Nas had illmatic and Jay-z has his long lasting career. But if you ask me whos a BETTER artist/group I'd go with Nas just like I'd go with the Fugees. Props to Lauryn Hill for breaking into the hip hop scene and doing her thing. Props to Wyclef for his musical talent and merging hip hop into the ears of the disbelievers and mainstream media. Fugees are definitely in the top 5 of all time just for their impact on the scene. Just like illmatic was to hip hop. No disrespect to de la soul I bump 3 feet high all the time, call me biased here but I grew up with the fugees and loved what they did. TOUGH MATCH UP THOUGH! Both groups deserved to be in the 2nd seeding.

  • InternetApex - 10 years ago

The Fugees have ONE decent album. Don't do this, people.

  • s.l - 10 years ago

    what about The Coup?

  • plug one - 10 years ago

absolutely ridiculous. love the fugees, but no match for de la soul. I'll take 3 ft high and rising over almost any other album ever made.

  • Mike - 10 years ago

De La Soul should win this based on Prince Paul's (and J Dilla's) production alone. One of the most consistently great groups of all time. I love Killing Me Softly, Ready Or Not, FugeeLa (as well as How Many mics and Zealots) as much as anyone, but come on...lets not get ridiculous here

  • David Amidon - 10 years ago

Holy shit, do people not remember that The Fugees also comprised John Forte, Pras and Wyclef Jean? Can a couple of hit singles and an impressive public falling out between members really trump Four classic albums and a fantastic twilight career with The Grind Date, First Serve, etc.? De la Soul are one of the most fantastic groups of all time, Buhloone Mindstate, Three Feet High, ...Is Dead, Stakes Is High...

We're talking about a group that released three or four records that easily slot in the Top 100/150 hip-hop records EVER on the precipice of getting beat by a group with two or three SONGS. Not a single great album let alone an all time classic. It's always sobering seeing how far the love for a long since dead form of Lauryn Hill can carry people.

  • LamarMatic - 10 years ago

The outrage in the comment section says it all - the real hip-hop heads know where it's at. It should be no contest. De La Soul all the way.

  • W2. - 10 years ago

J & J - this is clearly not what the people want!

3 Ft. High, De La Soul is Dead, B. Mind State, Grind Date, all the way through to their recent tribute mixtape for Ma Dukes and Dilla - D.A.I.S.Y.

De La >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fugees. And it ain't even close! Fugees need to send you a thank you card for putting them in this conversation ahead of the likes of Company Flow and the rest of the Boot Camp Clique (among others).

  • djezi - 10 years ago

PEOPLE. LISTEN TO DE LA SOUL IS DEAD AND VOTE ACCORDINGLY. That's all. This is easy. Do it for America.

  • Gee - 10 years ago

Again...one album vs a serious catalog of classic albums. Very sad voting.

  • matt bonner - 10 years ago

This is a joke right? You two should both have your rap cards removed for this tourney set up. De La Soul is not a fourth seed. Where is BDP?

  • AP - 10 years ago

This should be DeLa all day. Almost 20 years in the game and hit records in 3 decades. Fugees catalog just doesn't match up.

  • ralph - 10 years ago

rock co kane flow de la soul listen to the lyrics hear the beat come on now

  • Sam - 10 years ago

The Score is great, but a group that made one great album shouldn't beat a group that made at least 4. Also, people shouldn't count Lauryn and Wyclef's solo work towards this.

  • Rickdicolous - 10 years ago

DE LA! i love the score but come on folks!

  • Brian Leavell - 10 years ago

No BDP or Digable Planets on here? But The Dogg Pound makes the cut? Shameful. But I do love the conversation. As for this one I gotta give the edge to De La but the Score was one of the all time great hip hop albums.

  • Alex C - 10 years ago

De La Soul gonna lose already? smh

  • 24GoHuskies - 10 years ago

Fugues vs DeLa in the first round...! Damn. The Score was an all-timer but DeLa brought it consistent. Plus, Lauren Hill will have to learn it just like LeBron and Mesi did--it can't be one great and a bunch of random dudes.

  • JP - 10 years ago

Damn, how's De La Soul not killin this

  • Lee Chicago - 10 years ago

Wyclef and Pras couldn't tag team ONE of the plugs for the W! Somebody turned the handicap on for this vote.

  • Mr. Fritz - 10 years ago

Fugees till I die and twice on Sunday.

  • bill hank - 10 years ago

mannnnn....fugees have one good album and one (slightly overrated in my opinion) classic...de la has classic, classic, classic, great, very good, good, very good, and TBD since they STILL GOING! not close if you KNOW THE DEAL FUCK IT!

  • Steve - 10 years ago

This should not be close. De La is the only answer people

  • vora - 10 years ago

Fugees gonna win this one because of commercial appeal. The Score sold more records than everything De La ever put out combined. Real heads are gonna lean De La because of the amazing longevity (from 3 Feet High and Rising to Get Away...that's 25 years in the game!), but let's face it, De La was never gonna win this competition. I ain't mad at the Fugees.

  • Not Goin Be Able To Do It - 10 years ago

Gotta be De La. Fugees are dope but compared to De La Soul? NOT GONNAAA BE ABLE TO DO IT!

De La should be a 2 seed, or better yet a 3 seed - 3 is the magic number. Fugees never had the cohesion that some of these top "groups" had. They had a great year but De La had 15 great years. De La was unbelievable live & always stayed together. They were better than the sum of their parts. I'd argue Lauren Hill & Wycleaf are both more famous & we'll know individually than the Fugees as a group. This one shouldn't be close. De La All the way!

  • Cesar - 10 years ago

The Fugees haven't done anything in years; De La Soul is still putting out music and have a much bigger discography. This should be no contest.

  • wbeyer - 10 years ago

Wow, brutal match-up off the bat - came here excited to vote for both of my favorites and can't believe I gotta pick already.

  • djezi - 10 years ago

If De La loses, my faith in humanity will be forever destroyed.

  • Rob - 10 years ago

TOUGH Choice. I mean you gotta choose De La because of their catalog but man the fugees were great. Love both these groups

  • rey - 10 years ago

How is this even close? De la's discography shits on the fugees. Praz is a trash rapper. Wyclef is corny he ruined canibus career and killed dangles in shottas. Lauryn hill was dope though.

  • juan - 10 years ago

De La losing to the Fugees? No respect as usual.

  • ned flanders - 10 years ago

    is this a trick question?

  • Jake - 10 years ago

Fugees as a #5 seed? Ridiculous!

  • augustine - 10 years ago

whoever seeded these two against each other in the first round should go to hell. this should be the final

  • Jimmy Fromsac - 10 years ago

Nooooooo...Cmon de la!!! Posdunos is a legend in the game. Black Medallion no gold
