Cypress Hill hands down, they had better beats, lyrics and a bigger fan base. You got to wonder why Scarface went solo. Ghetto boys having a little guy claiming he beat up grown folks was comical. Both groups had there moments but Cypress on top. Scarface vs. B-Real, Scarface comes out on top, but not in groups. IT'S THAT FUNKY CYPRESS HILL.

@ morgan: de la soul and public enemy won't see each other because run-dmc will win their poll (i voted for de la btw). however if they did it would tear my heart out to vote against de la. i've said it before and will always say it: public enemy is the most important hip hop group to ever exist. wu-tang may have sold more and have a longer lasting relevance, but nobody scared white america more than p.e. did in 1988/89 with the noise and politics they brung to the culture. they single handedly made hip hop grow up almost overnight. in short: without public enemy's existence wu-tang wouldn't exist and do they things they've done.

no disrespect to either of these groups, but this whole thing is a lil flawed. one of these two groups will advance while mobb deep is out, organized konfusion/ultramagnetic mc's were never in, epmd is out, public enemy might be out, but one of these two groups will still be in. damn, that's a little more than wack, and i like both cypress and the geto boys, but they just aren't better than the other groups i mentioned. this contest should have went for the full 64 group bracket and then it could include great duo's like eric b & rakim, g rap & polo and so on. now that would have been really poppin'.

Man this is a tough one for me! And apparently everyone else too?! It's super close! 'Cock the Hammer' is THE SONG that makes it so tough for me it's one of Cypress Hill's best songs and just an alltime classic! But Scarface, Willie-D, & Bushwick Bill used to be on the radio in Houston all the time even met them once9 and even though i live 3 hours south of there I could barely pick up a great Hip-Hop station 'The Box' so that plus being from TX gives the Ghetto Boys the edge for me! But DAMN!??!

i know that the ghetto boys are great. i know that their members wrote some of the greatest songs for other rappers. again, i know they are great.
what makes this vote hard can be about when you came up. cypress hill, when i was in high school and college, was huge. they came out hard with that first album. black sunday was a bit of a drop off for me, and temple of boom was a return to form. they continue to press on, and even had some moderate hits. but what really makes cypress hill one of those top bands for many is one song - insane in the brain. that song was such a phenomena, such a cross cultural hit. you could not avoid this song.
maybe one great song doesn't make a greatest band, but then again, maybe one great mc (scarface) doesn't make one either.
