yes, yes, yes, run dmc is older. that's really all they have on de la.
run dmc is the stereotypical "i'm an old head" vote... but suggesting that run dmc's music beats de la only confirms that you're not fluent in either bands' work.

IMO, the two most iconic De La songs are Me, Myself, & I and A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays." They always sound so fresh and not locked into the era they were released in.
Also Raising Hell, what I think is Run DMC's best album, is simply not as good as 3 feet high and rising or De La Soul is Dead

Run Dmc was a marketing platform since day one. De La was pure hip hop since day one. De La gets the vote.

Run DMC kicked in the door for Hip Hop to breakthrough to be considered worthy of decent airplay , exposure. These dudes were huge seen them in 89 in Manchester England but were talking De La here . These dudes are icons still to this day. Adidas are no doubt eternally grateful for them cos still them shell toes Superstars are still classics still to this day
When I heard 3ft High and Rising and every album since has been a pleasure to absorb how creative De La are from flow , wordplay, absolute GENIUSES . When you take in the samples used for there beats and how they used them .... So this for me this is a no brainer my favourite has this round lock stock and barrell DE LA SOUL !!!!!.

man what a tough one for me. run-dmc got me started with hip hop when king of rock dropped in '85, but we're talking de la here. it looks like run will advance, but they'll get crushed in the next round, they ain't beating outkast (although they'll get my vote).

this be goin' out to them kids from East Mass, Amityville, to all my people out in Wyandanch, Bayshore, Brentwood, Hempstead. All my brothers out in Roosevelt, Freeport, Uniondale to Long Beach to them girls out in Huntington
I'm just going to say it. As influential and classic as those early Run-DMC albums are, the don't hold up well.

I'm 41. I dubbed their first tape 3 Feet High and Rising in high school freshman year off my man Joe. I started my brother's intense, lifelong, hip hop education off of it, he was 6, I was 15. It started a bond unbroken to this day, the years of listening parties I had with him, he being my music selector when I drove. I taught my daughter her first hip hop line "three is the magic number...", she was 3. I first saw De La and Tribe at a concert because a girl got sick two hours before the show and sold me her ticket freshman year in college. My first concert with my brother (15) was Spitkickers w/ De La, etc. My second concert with my brother(23) was to see De La Soul again. Me, age 21, my brother(11) and my sister(10) used to rap all of Bitty's in the BK Lounge. Anyone who really knows me will tell you De La Soul is my favorite group of all time. They have NEVER broken up, still tour, and still make albums. What y'all know about First Serve? Go check it if you are into them. I love all my hip hop groups, Run-DMC, etc. I have all of the 64+ groups albums named and more but for me no one beats DE LA SOUL in my heart.

De La Soul should win this easily. They started alternative hip-hop and have COUNTLESS classics. Wake up people.
