What should the city of Georgetown do with the Austin Avenue bridges?

Apparently the majority of people are limiting their alternatives to replacing the bridges to support higher weight limits. It seems to me that there needs to be far more extensive research into what the "requirements are". As with most analysis we attempt to jump to conclusion without conducting extensive enough analysis to determine what are the problems and alternatives. Why are the bridge weight strength requirements being driven by a limited few requiremen5s for fuel truck, garbage trucks and fire trucks. Seems to me the council ought to be considering how many times the fire trucks are "really required" to transfer the bridges? Why do fuel trucks and garbage trucks need to transverse these bridges? If we blindly go forward with a "crisis management" solution then we will be faced with exponential costs increases as special interests will drive ADA sidewalks and "turns lanes that will be nice but nor essential." I would support expens3e for detailed study and requirement definition before awarding contracts for construction contracts. Historically government contract take three times longer than estimated and four to five times the cost because decision makers rush to decisions before identifying the real problems. Watch out for conflict of interest between contracyors and decision makers.
