    Oh yeah. GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!

Wu... all day. NWA are our Pioneers, but as a group... I'm going Wu. It's like the Autobots and Decepticons going at it.

NWA, THE WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS GROUP. I cannot believe how many def people are in America. WU is not better than NWA. How long does a song have to be to listen to all members of WU, wearing eye contacts, acting like they just woke up of an alley and with one pant sleeve walking around the cold NY. NWA is a far better group that change the industry. THROWING UP THE W. WEST SIDE! MO'FOS

I was in sixth grade when NWA hit. Those albums blew my mind. Wanted a Raiders starter coat so bad, but they were always sold out, and in reality couldn't afford one to begin with. Wu came out when I was in high school and they just killed it. Nothing was coming close to what they were putting out.
I don't think lyrically they are on the same level with the Wu,except maybe Cube, but NWA had the streets going nuts and changed a whole culture. That's why they are getting my vote. This is a great final four, but still miss EPMD not being included!

Wu all the way at this point...East Coast Rap.

  • Supervillain_T - 10 years ago

By the way, @Ant, etc. We seem to be the people that have been commenting since the beginning and are still really into this competition. So who do you all think are the deserving Top 4?

My picks: Bone Thugs, NWA, Wu Tang, Fugees. (Tribe and Thug Life are also candidates for those 3 and 4 slots on any given day.)

  • Supervillain_T - 10 years ago

We may be having some arguments about this specific matchup and nitpicking about each groups strengths and shortcomings... But we all agree that both squads are worthy of a Final Four spot, right?

  • california - 10 years ago

I would take Meth, Ghost, GZA, Raekwon, and Deck over any rapper in NWA. And RZA vs Dre is a wash when it comes to producing, they're both all-time greats.

  • Ant - 10 years ago

...and fyi...that is just some documented proof. They've both been known to have used ghost writers for just as long as they've been suspected of being bisexual. So, basically, 20+ years. Don't know where the hell you've been.

  • ncik - 10 years ago

Dr Dre may be "raps first billionaire", but it has nothing to do with his rapping. That was a straight up business deal, nothing to do with rapping or producing, so it's got very little to do with anything

  • Ant - 10 years ago

SMH. Here is some documentation. It's from 5 years ago...so I could see how you guys would have missed it, with you not really paying much attention to details and all. The second link has audio.

And I've seen Dre in top 10 lists, let alone top 100. 1st rap billionaire ever. Has a lot to lean his legacy on.

  • KD6 - 10 years ago

Idk, if you gave me a choice between what I would want to listen to if I had to drive for 3 hours somewhere, I'd probably pick 2001 over the chronic. Just my opinion, and 2001 would probably lose a vote to the chronic, but I like some of the songs better.

  • Supervillain_T - 10 years ago

@KD6, thanks for your support. But you lost me at 2001. Obviously the original, THE CHRONIC, is the best rap album of all time. (Still, that has no bearing on this best hiphop GROUP competition.)

@Mike, NWA hasn't aged well? Are you kidding? That "generic gangta rap" as you call it was the beginning of the best era of the genre. What is terrible is the dance-rap variety that has been raping our ears since the turn of the century. And RZA (while great) is a thousand miles away from Dre in term of a quality rapper or producer.

@Ant, I've never heard those claims about Dre and Eazy not writing their own rhymes, and I find it hard to believe. But, regardless, their final product is pretty close to immaculate.

  • Ant - 10 years ago

"But do any of their emcees come close to Eazy? No. Does any Wu Tang member come close to Dre as either an emcee or a producer? Not even remotely!"

KD6, sorry but these are not valid opinions. I would normally say that any opinion is 'valid,' but I cannot do that here. The above rappers (Dre & Eazy) would not appear anywhere near a top 100 list of emcees conducted by an objective source...and that's not even accounting for the well known fact that they both used ghost writers throughout their careers. Almost the entire clan would appear in a top 100, and half of the clan would appear within the top 50 (half the clan would appear in the top 25 in a slightly more East Coast biased poll).

'2001' is a great album, especially if you only listen to the first half.

  • Mike - 10 years ago

also, regarding your comment about Easy E, Supervillain, he is a terrible emcee. Didn't write his own lyrics, clumsy delivery.

  • Mike - 10 years ago

NWA's music hasn't aged well in my view. It was obviously insanely influential to rap music's evolution, but revisiting the Straight Outta Compton album I was surprised by how.. amateurish it seemed. The lyrics are pretty generic gangsta type stuff. No detail. Generic sexism.

Old Wu-tang music, on the other hand, holds up well. Really vital, raw, exciting. And of course also very influential.

    To me there's no contest.

  • KD6 - 10 years ago

Yo Ant, hate to talk it but I agree with him. I honestly don't know how some people think Wu Tang is the greatest. All his opinions are valid. How about you go listen to 2001. No shame, greatest album in my opinion.

  • Ant - 10 years ago

Supervillain_T, you do know that RZA produced 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, Cuban Linx, Return to 36, Tical, Iron Man, Wu-Forever, etc, etc. and was the driving force behind the sound of all other Wu related albums like Killarmy, Sunz of Man, La the Darkman, etc.?

oh yeah, and RZA puts Dre to shame on the mic. I don't know how anyone could even suggest otherwise. Go listen to the second Gravediggaz album.

  • Supervillain_T - 10 years ago

What can I say here? I think NWA is by far the better group, but there's no way they are going to win. Bias toward East coast rap has been ingrained since the inception of the genre. Of course Wu Tang is phenomenal and I have nothing bad to say about them, but Cali gangsta rap represents the apex of hip-hop and NWA is the group that really struck the proverbial match. Of course Wu has had more longevity, but they don't have a single track that comes close to NWA's 5 or 6 best. Wu has a lot of talent on hand, to be sure. But do any of their emcees come close to Eazy? No. Does any Wu Tang member come close to Dre as either an emcee or a producer? Not even remotely! Eazy, Cube and Dre (the single most important hip-hop figure of all time) should be enough to put this argument to rest.
Here's an appropriate analogy for this matchup: Would you rather bone 10 hot college girls or 3 supermodels? The answer should be supermodels. And that's NWA.

  • Ant - 10 years ago

not really that close...there will be many 'Outkasts' in the future... there will never be another Wu-Tang Clan. period.

  • Brandon - 10 years ago

It's gonna be an all out brawl between Outkast and Wu in the final. I'd like to think that the Clan will take it. But Outkast is a pretty big juggernaut. It's gonna be close, like 52%-48% either way. Just don't know who will win
