Do you think mandatory voting in federal elections is a good idea?

If you don't vote you have know say in the matters of the country. But I don't believe you should be forced to vote. Vote Liberal\s and watch your taxes rise.. That's just the beginning

Is this a joke? Of course we haven't been a free country for years, but at least we used to pretend to be. Maybe people don't see anyone worth voting for, maybe they see it doesn't matter, or maybe they don't care for the current system. The answer, force them to vote? Ha, I hope people wake up and see how ridiculous this is.

Our voting is down because like myself people have had enough of an elected dictatorship.
I live in the west my vote means nothing.
Ontario and Quebec elect the government.
I spend 90% of my time in the USA and would trade my citizenship for an American one in a heartbeat.
Our country is a pathetic joke in comparison.

I am not for mandatory voting, however providing a significant incentive or tax credit for voting would be very encouraging. Also making voting day say for example 3rd Friday in October every 5 years a National Holiday which doubles wage cost to provide incentive for companies to not having people work that day which would encourage political volunteerism as people would have time available to actually vote and participate.
