Maybe the worst hockey article I have ever read and I have been around a long time. So he mentions Max Pacioretty and not David Clarkson. Are you kidding me! What team would not love to have Max Pacioretty at 4.5 million a year. Please do your homework before you write an article.

How about the worse sports writer in Canada.....
    Not much to debate here.

  • Amber - 10 years ago

    Bull shit

  • doggy - 10 years ago

Where are you from Mike. Oh let me guess.Toronto

  • Ty Schoe - 10 years ago

hahaha... good for a laugh.... must not watch hockey.... or its april 1st

  • Frank - 10 years ago

Is "Mike Dennis" serious? lol Worst article ever! Nonsence...

  • Glo - 10 years ago

Where is Dave Clarkson on this list? By far the worst contract among Canadian teams.

  • Marc - 10 years ago

I have to agree with everyone here. To think some idiot actually agreed that MaxPac's salary is among the worst, when all intelligent hockey writer's list his contract as the biggest bargain in the league, is even more incredible. Just shows there are all sorts of idiots with opinions. Not only are the arguments weak, they are mostly outright wrong. Ever heard of capgeek.com? Try a little research buddy. Clarkson. Nuff said.

  • Bill Simard - 10 years ago

Benoit Pouliot should be considered as well : 4M, 5 years. Best season : 36 pts. Spent the last 4 years or so with 1 year contracts.

  • Spyro - 10 years ago

Wow. Pacioretty's contract is probably the biggest bargain for the Habs and even in all the league.. I hope this article is only a joke! I was also wondering ... Where's Clarkson ? LOL

  • John Madden - 10 years ago

Wooooww... I guess everything has been said but I think it needs to be re-emphasized once again: that list is so bad!

Pacioretty is one of the best bargain in the entire league!! The fact his contract is on that list is already bad enough...but then you surpass yourself by omitting Clarkson's deal?

    Come on man...

  • Martin Vaudry - 10 years ago

Common You forget to says in stats of Pac : 39, 15, 33 and 14 (one seson with only 48 games, the other with chara case... 4,.5 million to score in average 30 goals in a defensive NHL it's not s part of "worst" contract.... I thinks Clarkson.. it'S a WORST contract ever... for a Canadian Team...

  • benjamin - 10 years ago

I'm pretty sure Brian Campbell has the worst most over paid contract in the NHL...

  • Dwight - 10 years ago

I for the life of me cannot understand why the Leafs agreed to pay Phaneuf so much money and make him Captain. I don't know what they see in him. To me he's an average player with very little in the way of leadership qualities.

    Canadian Bush league cooperatives

  • christopher brown - 10 years ago

can someone please explain to me why in the HELL Evander Kane is on this list and Zach Bogosian is?

  • Patrick M - 10 years ago

    Worst. Article. Ever.

  • C - 10 years ago

Clarkson should top this list. Who is this writer? Do your research!

  • Jay - 10 years ago

Don't ever write an article EVER!!!

  • Sean - 10 years ago

This is why you guys are losing hockey coverage...you aren't paying attention. How you can leave Clarkson off this list(he should be #1)

  • Dan - 10 years ago

lol...how does Bogo get on this list for the Jets and Pavelec not??? that right there is a joke. Bogo has had lots of injury trouble the past few seasons and last season was really an off year for him. He's going to have a nice bounce back this year. Pavelec is awful.

  • Doug - 10 years ago

I guess I'm not really shocked by the quality of the article (or lack thereof) when the person who wrote it actually uses the word "haters" in a professional article...

  • brian - 10 years ago

I guess it's all been said. An article like this makes me think the writer doesn't watch hockey and has never heard of Google.

  • Joe - 10 years ago

Oh, and to answer my own list, my choice for worst contract goes to..

    Oilers - Kevin Lowe.

  • Joe - 10 years ago

What an idiotic list. Looks more like a list of which is the BEST bargain, not worst. Obviously everyone else who commented here noticed that too.. I'll do the author a favour though, do his work for him & provide a REAL list. It may not be perfect but it's a lot better than this article was..

    1. Leafs - David Clarkson - No bang for ALOT of bucks, for a LONG time..
    2. Habs - Andrei Markov - Injury prone, lost a step, too expensive for his age.
    3. Canucks - Ryan Miller - Best days are behind him, unnecessary & expensive addition.
    4. Jets - Ondrej Pavelec - Not a true #1, contract prevents acquiring a true #1.
    5. Flames - David Jones - Who? 4M/year is a lot for a guy who doesn't do much out there.
    6. Sens - Craig Anderson - Old, injury prone & likely on the down slide. At least they still have Lehner..
    7. Oilers - Entire Roster/"Pick a card, any card" - Insert nearly any name & you'd have a legitimate case.

  • Patrick - 10 years ago

Mike Dennis is an absolute joke of a journalist. Please don't ever write a hockey related Artie again unless it's an apology for your complete lack of knowledge on the subject. You claim pacioretty has good and bad seasons. He has consistently scored at an approximate 30 goals per season pace. The only reason he hasn't hit 30 every year is due to the lockout and the season where e broke his neck after 37 games. Pull your head out of the sand, Mike. Take a look at David Clarksons contract and tell me Maxs deal is worse.

  • michael - 10 years ago

Mr.dennis..please help yourself out the door. You know cbc dosen't need the likes of a idiot like you.merci beaucoup et svp trouver d'autre gens pour écrire vos articles.

  • Luis - 10 years ago

Max Pacioretty?????? Mr. Dennis, please add whatever agreement you made with the CBC to that list to even it up. Absolute joke.

  • Doug - 10 years ago

Phaneuf dont even have the worst contract on his team. That belongs to clarkson. There wasnt much thought put into this article

  • James - 10 years ago

Agreed, this is a really bad article. What's happened to the CBC? Articles like this, lost their tv rights, and....the mother if all...they're replacing Ron McLean with that goof George Strombolopohoweveryouspellit!!! It was nice knowing you HNIC.

  • Dom - 10 years ago

Pacioretty ? What a joke this article...

Worst contract is CBC paying this guy to write about stuff he knows nothing about.

  • Steve - 10 years ago

Hahaha I'm crying over how pathetic that article is. Pacioretty out there and Clarkson missing. Someone hasn't watched hockey for years

  • Nick Brenie - 10 years ago

    Dear CBC,
I am in aww that you have published not only a useless article but something so inaccurate.
CBC you have been the company that has made it's name with hockey...
Now you have lost all rights to air the games. You employ racists like Don Cherry, and former goons that constantly have to have Boston or Toronto going out or in their mouths.
This article is ridiculous! All those contracts are nothing to bat an eye at(aside from Phaneuf)
But Pacrioetty.....39 last year,14 the year before in a LOCKOUT season,35 in a recovery season from a broken neck! Then what 15 in a shortened season because of a broken neck....
Pacrioetty has the worst contract alright....the worst contract for him!!!
That contract is what got his agent fired.Best forward on the Canadiens at his age being paid 4.5!!!!!excuse my French but are you F@cking nuts to think that's a bad contract for the organization!!!!!
Dennis you are a fool and a disgrace as writer and as hockey fan (clearly something you are not)

CBC WAKE UP!!!! This is a joke and your readers deserve better!!stop embarrassing yourselves even more with these morons!!!
I will gladly write for free just to keep this trach out ou sight of true hockey fans!

  • Tony white - 10 years ago

Worst article of all time. Writer should be fired. Max pacioretty has the best contract for a canadian team not the worst. Thank god cbc does not have the hockey rights anymore bunch of dumb idiots

  • D - 10 years ago

    4. 5 million for a 30+ goal scorer is a bargain. Does this guy actually know hockey???

  • Paul - 10 years ago

The best part is when Mike Dennis says that Pacioretty "seems to have a bad season every other year". The two sub-30 goal seasons in the 4-year sample were 2010-11 and 2012-13 -- the season he split between Hamilton and Montreal when he had his neck broken and the lockout season. Way to do your homework, Mike. There are other contracts on the Habs that are more toxic than Patches'. Thanks for playing though, you've earned your "participant" medal.

Research, it's your friend and the best tool to prevent you from looking like, well, a tool.

  • David - 10 years ago

Please fire this guy. It is one thing to be wrong or have a differing opinion, but downright stupidity cannot be tolerated. His points are terribly thought out and unconvincing, not to mention that the players he names are notable for being on some very favourable contracts ( namely Pachioretty and MacArthur).

I can't believe garbage like this was even published.

  • Steve - 10 years ago

Wow this is a really bad article... Lots of these guys aren't even top 3 worst contracts on their team.

  • Mike - 10 years ago

How can you possibly make a list like this, and not include David Clarkson?

  • Chris - 10 years ago

This is likely the worst article ive ever read on hockey. As in, fucking retarded. Please don't write about hockey anymore.

  • Chris - 10 years ago

This is likely the worst article ive ever read on hockey. As in, fucking retarded. Please don't write about hockey anymore.

  • Pat - 10 years ago

Um, Dennis? Do you actually watch hockey? Like, ever at all? Because not only was Pacioretty 4th in goals last year, the "bad" year of 15 goals he scored the year prior was in 44 games, which over an 82 game season would've been 28 goals and 72 points. And the years before that, he scored 33 goals and 65 points. So, in fact, he's remarkably consistent. Oh, and he's 26. So the fact that he's signed to a $4.5M cap hit for 5 more years, when every other player that produces at his level have cap hits of $7M or higher, makes him one of the NHL's best contracts.

Damn, CBC. Four months without hockey rights and you're employing/publishing this dreck? Eesh.
