People who abuse animals are disgusting and should be dealt with accordingly. Tougher laws and these laws should be enforced

Texas Humane Legislative Network is working towards increasing the penalties for animal abuse and cruelty. It is very encouraging to read these comments from people who agree and support tougher laws.
We need to get all of our friends, family and neighbors to take a proactive stance by contacting their legislators to support the bills. Chris Bonnewitz makes a great statement of "NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE".

Missouri's nickname is Misery when it comes to animal welfare laws. We are the puppy mill state; our legislators ARE puppy millers. We support Factory Farming and Ag - gag laws and just passed in our Constitution a Right To Farm law. And our legislator in D.C. supports Horse Slaughter. ...go figure.

Pima county (Tucson,Az) has some of the best animal cruelty laws in the country. But getting our Pima Ciunty Animal Care officers to use them is another story. But if we could have even stronger harsher laws I believe, if the public was made aware of them in all forms of the media it might be a Deterrent to maybe head off cruelty to in the first place. The stronger the better.

It's too bad we can't screen potential pet owners like we do wanna be hand gun owners. Maybe then we might be able to weed out bad pet purchaser/owners.

ANYONE THAT CAN ABUSE AN ANIMAL CAN ABUSE A CHILD , THE ELDERLY OR ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING. IF A PERSON ABUSES AN ANIMAL THEY SHOULD BE SEVERELY PUNISHED .

Our judicial system should be revised. An animal court should be established with judges who could impose severe fines or jail sentences.

To torture an animal without retribution is like releasing a murderer without a jail sentence...........

I totally agree with all the above. Tougher laws for these people before they do the same things to other people and children!! Animals are just a stepping stone for these perverts!! Stricter laws that fit the crime!

Animal cruelty laws aren't strick enough
People just get a clap on the wrist for cruelty

animal cruelty Laws need to be changed to a minimum 1 year in prison so that a felony record will follow the abuser around for life! maybe then and only then will people stop and think about what they're doing to animals.

cruelty to any living thing should be punished no matter what. it would be nice if the punishment fit the crime but that is wishful thinking on my part!

Yes stricter laws. Higher fines. No more Puppy Mills eradicate them. No more selling puppies on the internet.
Abusing "any animal" should be punished to the fullest extent of the laws.

I've been asking for tougher penalties against animal abusers for years! There is definite proof of the connection with abuse towards an innocent animal will = abusive actions towards a human. We can no longer deny it. We have to speak up for those unable to speak for themselves. That includes all animals. If we don't we are not doing a good job as a nation.

They feel pain such as we do. Many look to humans for love and attention such as we do. Yet their lives are so much shorter than ours, why not allow them to enjoy the "few" years they have as we would want for ourselves?

  • chris bonnewitz - 10 years ago

absolutely no excuse for the abuse that goes on. People can be so cruel just because its a helpless animal that cannot speak or act for themselves. I think the penalty needs to be as severe as you can get it.

Stricter animal cruelty laws are needed. This society should not countenance animal cruelty as it is a crime against humanity.
