Last month I went in for capacitors and to find a proper-sized cord to splice into a project. One goes to Radio Shack when they need the part today. If you can wait for it, sites like Adafruit, Sparkfun, or Digikey are much cheaper, even after you've paid for shipping. E.g., RS wants $5 bucks or more for a couple of coin cell batteries and you can get 50 for $12 on Amazon.

Radio Shack has missed a huge opportunity to tap into the Maker movement that should be their bread and butter to try to compete selling phones. I could envision a path to profit and relevance, but they're traveling down the wrong road.

I'm a store manager for radio shack and absolutely love it!! We are a speciality electronics store and a one stop wireless spot! Anyone can come in with any questions and we are there to help and inform! Big box retailers cannot say the same without lying! The planet will be sad if there are no more Radio Shacks!

Returned a battery I bought from RS online and picked up what I thought was a right sized replacement. Returned that for credit the next day because it would not take/hold a charge. Nonetheless, I would say that I bought a connection, an adapter or some item such as headphones from RS 3 to 4 times a year.

This is my husband's and my six year old son's favorite place on earth. Poor guys probably going to cry if they go under.....my son's going to be upset too.

I bought a backup battery for my alarm system. I think that's the ONLY thing I've ever purchased from Radio Shack.
