Would you move into a tiny house the size of a living room?

People need to learn to do things for themselves, $50,000 and not including land!? WTF someone is getting ripped off. I just OVERBUILT a 750+ sqft home for less than $20k. I could have done it for half that, but I wanted it stronger. ie: I used plywood instead of chipboard, 2x6 at 16" centers instead of 2x4 or 24" centers, Steel siding and roofing vs vinyl/asphalt, and I could go on and on.

Seriously get out there and price the stuff before blindly paying a contractor to build you something. Heck Local Mennonites quoted me $8k for 16x24 building finished/delivered.

    A 1000 ft2 condo in Montreal can cost 300K.
    A 1000 ft2 apartment in Montreal can cost 850$/month.

(With simplistic calculations) You would need to live 30 years in that apartment to spend the same price as the condo.

The problem is that people wants to "own" their home, whatever that means. You don't have to live in a 4x6 closet to save money, an apartment will save you a lot of money AND trouble compared to a condo/house.

By the way, after all the trouble of a mortgage, old couples are now selling their house to go live in an apartment......go figure.

I'm an athlete training for the Olympics and I'm living in a 100 square foot tiny house. It's all the space I need and it's great for moving around Europe and gaining access to the best training and racing venues on a Canadian summer sport athlete's budget. We should do a story about it on CBC some time.

    Here's a short vid about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4zQEDddoA4&spfreload=1

I lived with my husband and 2 huskeys in a 40x8 bus for 10 years. I now have a 68x14 mobile home which is huge. I loved it. The only down side is guests. No room. They don't know the dance and get in the way.

I love the idea of living minimally, though it would be difficult if you had a couple kids running around in there.

That tiny space (200 or so square feet) is as much or more than your future retirement home! Get used to the idea.

Not if you had to use communal bathroom and kitchen facilities
