As a finder of letterboxes, how do you feel about box maintenance?

While searching for boxes in our surrounding area I keep coming across boxes listed as "active" on AQ but the exact same box on LbNA will say "retired" or "box removed" (and vice versa). It is annoying to have to check both sites to find the true status of a box... so YES, even if you abandon the box physically because you live far away (or plant prolifically), please keep up with your boxes online!! Taking a whole afternoon to go hunt a box only to learn later that it was retired two years ago (but never updated properly) is SO frustrating.

A couple of answers work for me. I see nothing wrong with a "plant and forget" box as long as it's up for adoption so that finders can maintain both the box and the clues.
