Hey Mark. That is a profiling statement. I just find it odd that if you mess up at work it doesn't make it to the headlines. "He should be fired" that seems a little extreme. Yes training and retesting. But then again I must be an idiot or a cop. Or both according to you.

How would anyone select, "He was just doing his job."? This is horrible. What the hell is wrong with you people? So an officer "just doing his job" is allowed to stereotype and break laws? In no way was he doing his job after the initial reason for the headlights. The Ankeny police department should be ashamed for this man's discretion. Sickening.

Unfortunately most police officers of ankeny have this sense of entitlement. I hope this police officer was reprimanded if not fired. They need to be kicked off their pedestals and shown they can't do whatever they want. Young people need to learn their rights so this doesn't happen to them.

I can't figure out how after reading this news article which states that the city of Ankeny apologized for this officer's actions, 44% of the people reading it can still vote that the officer was just doing his job! What the hell? How can it be doing his job if his bosses are apologizing for his actions? What would have happened if this guy had not been filming? Would the officer have trumped up a reason to search anyway? Sounds like he was half way there! Sure a lawyer would have won the case but who pays for the lawyer? The innocent victim. Who pays for the prosecutor? All of us! HOW IS THIS RIGHT IN ANY WAY???
If we screw up and get stopped, many times we are sent to take mandatory classes at our expense. This officer needs to be sent for more training AT HIS EXPENSE! The public should not be required to pay for his stupidity and attempt to circumvent the laws he has sworn to uphold.

Other towns are not immune.
Like the two officers who knew a man had been drinking in his own yard; asked him to come talk to them, and as soon as his foot touched the sidewalk, threw him to the ground, cuffed him, and charged him with public intoxication.
Eight hours later when he was released, they could not produce his ID which had been surrendered at the time of his arrest. Instead he had to go to a local grocery store to retrieve his ID. The store refused to say how they had obtained it and the local police refused to discuss how it got to the store.
Yes, it was all dismissed after a couple thousand dollars were paid to an attorney, but really?
