So now Keydets with one voice cry,
God bless our team and VMI.

Thanks to all the good sports and competitors. Much respect WSU and WAZZUMARK. Thank you for bringing more awareness to the fight against ALS and introducing many of us to Team Gleason. Many from VMI have already donated to the Team as they said they would. I have donated and plan to send an additional donation before the end of the year. It's been said this is just a silly little competition but a positive and some real good has come out of it in addition to the schools being able to demonstrate their school spirit and pride. You're a class act Wazzumark. Thank you for your effort in having the VMI flag flown beside the WSU flag. I've tried to vote for Connor Halliday but the Golden Arm competition is not open like this poll but tied to Facebook so I'm not able to participate in that one. Hoping he can pull out a win. Best wishes to all! RAH VA MIL! Go Cougars!

Thanks to all you good sports out there and especially you WSU Cougars. I now have a West coast team to cheer on. All Keydets, especially those from 7 September 1967 to 16 May 1971 (Classes '68 through '74), may divine providence shine on you. Finally, the few of you served in 1/9 (specially Bravo Co.), Marines, Semper Fi. Fair winds and following seas to all.

FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT FORGET THE MEANING OF 11/11/11
    I SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING;

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

Well. THERE it is. About 10:45 pm, 6 November 2014, NSCU
dropped to the (rounded off) 20 Percentile voting range.
In math even my nephews would easily comprehend,
    VMI (4), NCSU (1).

Apparently, one team's supporters voted, the other team's
supporters postured. One-vote-at-a-time, VMI humiliated NSCU.
We expected SO much more effort from you. Oh, and your troops
DID shoot Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson at Chanselorsville.
    YOUR bad.

Sa-weet. OK, there are 1510 minutes left for NCSU to overcome
    a 76,000 vote deficit. We're ... waiting.

Did NC State stop voting? Except for a few bad apples this competition from the beginning has been fun and a nice way to demonstrate what the VMI experience means to those who have gone through it and those who have been exposed to it. Hail to the Red, White and Yellow!

To all these people claiming bots... Do you guys not realize that you can vote once an hour?

  • NCSU Cheerleader - 10 years ago

VMI Students, Alumni, Fans, Friends, and Family, on behalf of my Alma Mater and the majority of the NCSU Family, please accept my sincerest apologies for the behavior of a select few who refuse to acknowledge your unified and coherent support and instead insist on levying unfounded accusations of cheating. I too watched and was impressed with your friendly and spirited bout against WSU...both schools showed a great measure of class. Unfortunately there are mean spirited individuals in any cross-section of society. Again, my apologies for this poor display of common decency. Congratulations to what seems to be a great group of people and thank you for the many sacrifices you and yours have made and continue to make on our behalf!

  • Ron NIcholson - 10 years ago

my son is at VMI. Class of 2017. He plays football, and is a Biology Major. As far as the voting is concerned between our family and the community of Front Royal Va, and his high school, we have entered close to a thousand votes. We are just one example of the respect that VMI deserves. Using these numbers it is easy to see how we can rally behind the Keydets. Go Keydets beat The Citadel.

  • Someone from VMI - 10 years ago

Ok... no bots have been used... let's call them drones instead. Either way, it is not cheating to use them nor is it an honor violation. As others have said before, there are no rules against using them, only limitations imparted through (attempted) enforcement.

  • DBVMI85 - 10 years ago

@Tom Collins You are either a troll or you have no idea how this voting works. Our integrity and reputation mean a lot more than "a damn thing". Did you know that you can vote more than once? Did you know that you do not need to be a student or former student to vote? Tom Collins, would you like to rethink your conclusion?

  • Tom Collins - 10 years ago

VMI current enrollment: about 1600. So, that means they take about 400 kids each year. Roughly. For 100,000 votes, that means every single attendee for the last 250 years voted at least once. But there were no votebots here.

Not that any of this really means a damn thing.

  • VMI14 - 10 years ago

Nobody actually using a bot would be dumb enough to write about it in the comments section. Anyone who mention that is simply trying to "troll" you and take away from this contest and what it really means. All alumni and current cadets who went through VMI know how difficult being at VMI can be, and that is what has brought us and the VMI community together in this, including our family and friends who've seen what VMI means to us and what VMI has done for us. We have the strong will and stubbornness (in many cases) to never give up in a fight, even one some may deem unimportant. The social media of the VMI community has been constantly shooting out reminders to rally our troops, whether it be the student body emails, alumni network emails, LinkedIn, Facebook, and the like. Hundreds of people vote as many times a day as possible, I know I do. Our brothers in arms overseas and at many other fine schools have voted for us as well, as they respect what they know is the corps values of The Institute (see what I did there). We will win this because we love our school (now that we have graduated, perhaps), because we are stubborn, and because this contest is one of the few things that we can really take into our own hands. We are simply a small school with a lot of pride, the kind you honestly cannot understand unless you've been there. That isn't meant as an insult to anyone, it's just how it is for our tiny, close-knit school. Anyone who says otherwise would be wise to remember that most of our student body moves on to defend their rights and give our lives so that they may sit on this website and write petty comments. Next time you see a man or woman in uniform, thank them for giving you the opportunity to be a prick, and remember they die every day so you can act in such a childish way. RAH VMI, and RAH 14!

  • DBVMI85 - 10 years ago

I think all these accusations of cheating despite the least shred of evidence is more of a reflection of our culture then any statement about the schools involved. We seem to live in an era where cheating is expected and often even applauded thanks to the likes of Barry Bonds, Lance Armstrong, Harry Potter, and an inundation of miscellaneous TV show and advertisement characters that flaunt how clever they are to get away with this or that. Celebrities are constantly in the news for getting caught at bad lifestyle choices. We have reality TV shows that glorify adultery or winning the pee wee football game at any cost. I've heard people tell me that they've avoided traffic tickets by lying to police. You wouldn't have to think long to extend this list ad nauseam.

So the automatic assumption by our youth, immersed in this muck their entire lives, is that any competition in our current culture can only be won by cheating. Their evidence is their upbringing and common experience. We are a civilization in decline.

  • Rick.H., '75 VMI - 10 years ago

The nice thing about this contest is how one can reach out to not only fans of the school in my case VMI, but others who might have an interest or want to support VMI. I have enlisted fans who school lost out in other rounds because of the relationship I have with them. I have ECU friends who are helping out in this round when they remember to vote. My youngest son voted VMI and NC State until this Final Round- He's a student at UNC-Greensboro but many of his HS friends attend NC State so he's been voting when he remembers for The Wolfpack. My favorite quote in support of VMI came from a VCU supporter when I asked for their vote was,"Sure Rick, Got your back and thanks for voting for VCU while they were still in the hunt." As the clock winds down on this match...This has been a fun event and for The VMI contingent that has been posting comments RAH VA MIL!! Let's beat The Citadel in two weeks in football and recapture The Silver Shako!

You know, this SAME question was asked by the Western Carolina University,
the University of Texas (Austin), the George Washington University, the Utah
Valley University, the Washington State University, and now the North Carolina
State University supporters when the realization that they were about to lose
set in (and, with the exception of Utah Valley, stopped voting in sufficient
numbers to reverse the outcome) to this TINY, TINY military college in Virginia.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIie9OosnEM

Oh, the indignity. But, if you snooze, you lose. The semi-Final match-up with
Washington State WAS, as noted, the actual "Championship Round". NCSU's
string of "no-show" opponents finally ran out. NO Jimmy Valvano team miracle
    at the buzzer, after all.

The VMI car-window decal looks to become a much coveted accessory
for those supporters wanting to bask in a rare winning campaign
at least until, (or - if) the Connecticut TV station elects to repeat the
effort in the summer of 2015. "We're going to fight with you, Squadron -
Hail, Hail, for Varsity, V...M...I" is a reference to the solidarity with OUR
team, NOT a challenge to your team and efforts.

  • BW-VMI '68 - 10 years ago

To compete with our formidable opponent WSU, we relied upon our extended VMI family while reaching out to request assistance from the National Kappa Alpha Headquarters along with members of the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force in support of VMI's campaign to win this "Coolest Logo" contest. That support has continued in this competition with NC State. To each and everyone of you that supported VMI - our heartiest thanks are warranted and extended. For all competitors we thank you for the spirited competition. VMI and the Cougs gained significant respect for each other in the highly spirited, most competitive head to head contest to date. Even during the competition, each found reasons to support the other in competitions, research in the fight against ALS and for displaying the school flags together on Game Day in the true spirit of respectful sportsmanship.

For those that displayed school spirit throughout this competition, we salute you for your school loyalty. For those of you that displayed disrespect for your competitors - shame on you. This was a silly competition that was not really about coolest logo, but one that quickly evolved into drawing out school pride and loyalty in a competitive on line display for all to see. Each school involved in the competition deserved the respect of all other competitors.

Us older "VMI's" really appreciated the opportunity to display our undying loyalty to an Institute that is much better to be "from than at" for the whole nation to witness. Rah Va Mil!

    @alexwolf88

"UPDATE: After detecting suspicious activity, this poll as been reset as of 9/11. In an effort to ensure no “voting bots” on this poll, fans will now be required to wait 1 hour in between votes.

    VMI vs George Washington"

You may have found that "gem", but apparently you suffer from a significant lack of reading comprehension, else you would know that the reset was because GW was cheating with a bot, not VMI.

I understand you are disappointed that your efforts to rouse the NCSU community haven't been successful, but accusing us of cheating is silly. If there were bots in action, VMI would have many more votes than we currently have. While you may have put a lot of effort into trying to use social media to rally the troops, you should realize that VMI has a very highly organized permanent communication structure to get the attention of cadets, alumni and supporters. Every class is represented by a class agent, a brother rat who collects information from his class for the alumni organization and passes alumni organization info down to us. The Keydet club also communicates with alumni, friends, family members and other VMI boosters and supporters. Every round has resulting in emails to all of us, telling us where to vote to support VMI. And alumni do support VMI, in every way we can. Yet for all that, I'm actually kind of disappointed at how low our vote count is. Clearly only a single digit percentage of cadets and alumni are voting even two or three times a day, especially when you consider we are getting support form many people outside the immediate VMI family as shown by comments from other school supporters who are voting for us.

Your problem isn't bots, its a lack of spirit and participation by the NCSU students, alumni, friends and family. They just don't care as much as you do.

  • MikeC VMI'68 - 10 years ago

    @MissRed

Count another VMI alumni who's voting for Connor. I wish they would post the scores so we could see how it was going.

I'm happy to support WSU - a great school that showed a lot of class as the voting went back and forth between us. Carrying the VMI flag along with your own on national TV was an incredible act of sportsman ship.

IMHO, WSU vs VMI was the true national championship.

  • MissRed - 10 years ago

Another great showing VMI. Connor Halliday is in the middle of the Transameroca Golden Arm contest. We'd love to at least beat out Oregon QB Marcus Mariotta. Please vote once a day. With your voting power and ours we know we can win. Here's the link.

Steady as It Goes! VMI advancing toward another 100,000 vote performance! Rah VA MIL!

  • VMImom - 10 years ago

@alexwolf The quote you post was attached to that contest, but you put it out of context (probably not your fault, because you were probably not paying any attention to the VMI vs. GW contest at the time)..... just so you know, that was in response to GW posting such a huge quantity of votes in such a short amount of time and inconsistent with their voting up until that point that it was considered "suspicious"...... VMIs voting was steady with consistent increases and small spikes, just as it has been since this thing started.... An easy quote to use for your purposes, but inaccurate for the point you are trying to make.

As far as emails, I would not even want to know how you got those, but I guess that is your business, and a discussion of what would work best is not proof of usage.

Take your loss with dignity and grace and move on with life. RAH VA MIL!

It's comments like this that make me wonder if they even know that you can vote more than once.

  • Jerry Anderson VT '67 - 10 years ago

Let's be honest, VMI's logo is better. It's an actual logo not a cartoon character. I have no ties to VMI but I have probably voted 80 times for VMI since this matchup came out, purely because I'm from Virginia and VMI's logo is better. So all of that bot talk is nonsense. I am sure I am not the only random person voting this often for VMI.

  • alexwolf88 - 10 years ago

UPDATE: After detecting suspicious activity, this poll as been reset as of 9/11. In an effort to ensure no “voting bots” on this poll, fans will now be required to wait 1 hour in between votes.

    VMI vs George Washington

I went back and checked all teams and all rounds and found this gem, which was the only time it was put in any of the contest. Now VMI, I don't doubt that you have a lot of people voting and out of respect to privacy I will not post an email between a WSU fan and VMI fan discussing may the best BOT win during the Final 4. I also have another email where the same 2 fans are saying don't over do it against NC State because even though they have won every round they only average 31k in votes

Bottom Line, you whipped us and did it good, but if you think that the infamous BOT that you so claim doesn't exist with VMI, well every team you beat claimed you were cheating and some of the same posters here defended no BOTs all the way to the finals. It also became completely obvious in the final 4 round between WSU & VMI.

In closing, this is my last post because I will read by the end of today the same if not new posters claiming honor, we don't cheat, we have fans from the 40's 50's 60's & 70's with nothing better to do, we facebook, we sent massive emails and so on and so forth. So feel good about what you have accomplished because at the end of the day and if you had access to all of our boards you would see the effort I put forth to help us win. they knew as I did after the WSU/VMI semi final, once VMI went up 20k votes in no time it was over for NC State which we won't even make our average this time.

  • Rallying the Vote - 10 years ago

    OK, NCSU...

...you now have @ 4,320 minutes to pull Victory from the Jaws of Defeat.

You have a HUGE campus, and and an equally HUGE student base and
alumni base. But, they DON'T know each other, so what you have is MANY
small, disparate groups, linked by one LARGE nebulous identity - the
North Carolina State University. It won't propel you to a "victory", at
least in THIS poll. How do rally the troops against a "VMI', when the
main booster effort has ALWAYS been against the local UNC and Duke
    demons?

What works for you in football, and basketball, support -DOESN'T work
HERE. VMI people are linked together in innummerable ways, and this
forum just gave them a chance to express themselves, and link
class year-to-class year, alumni group-to alumni-group, parent and
offspring(s) to common cause with the Institute, and even some opponents
who were impressed with the VMI effort. You were outmatched from
the opening gun. But, as earlier stated, you have 4,320 minutes to prove
this analysis ... WRONG. Since you've spotted us a 65,000 vote lead, with
three days left to vote, I'm confident you won't muster the requisite
30,000 votes/day to take the title.

Sucks to be you, right now. You'll be over it in a week. WE'LL be gloating
    until the summer of 2015.

  • the_Chet 07 - 10 years ago

Rah Virginia Mil! I know my br's are voting! The corps will be heard from TODAY!

  • New VMI fan - 10 years ago

This contest has brought a lot of people to this site that know little of VMI. As the week winds down, many of us would like to hear from those that lived some of the great sports memories. For example, the 76 and 77 basketball season must have been an extraordinary time to be there or in the stands. Tell us about it!!

  • MikeC VMI'68 - 10 years ago

    @ NCSU13

Actually, it would only take 20% of the current cadets and alumni voting twice a day to have reached the current vote level. Considering friends and family (both my wife and daughter vote several times a day) the actual alumni participation is probably less than 10% given the ones who care enough to vote probably vote much more than twice a day.
Against Washington State, who put up a great fight and very nearly won, the Keydet Club sent out an all hands call to vote. Those messages generated about an extra 2,500 vote surge each time, which is still only 10% of the alumni.
NCSU isn't losing because of bots, it's losing because student and alumni participation is simply not there. If you could have motivated your base like WSU did, you could have easily buried us.

  • Bud lite - 10 years ago

Dear ncsu13, you really haven't thought this through, have you? VMI cadets and alumni have been voting every day since poll opened. VMI supporters and NCSU supporters are not limited to one vote.if half the living alumni of VMI voted twice a day for five days they would easily exceed 86,000 votes. And VMI has th support of many people who did not attend VMI but, have much respect for VMI. And it's grads.

You will have to find some other excuse for losing.

  • You're Disgusting! - 10 years ago

@Gerald Allen Jealous any? You are completely disgusting and repulsive! What a sorry excuse of a human being you are! It's too bad your idiotic posts are not blocked but thanks to so many who have graduated from VMI as well as other military schools and then went on to the service to defend this country, scum such as yourself have the freedom and right to have an opinion and voice it. If you have nothing nice to say, then why don't you just shut up and keep it to yourself?!?!
@NCSU13' what you and so many others keep losing sight of is the contest is not limited to students and alumni. VMI students and alumni have friends and family who are also voting and they have support from some WSU fans. Every time a big school is being beaten by VMI accusations of "bots" start flying and the bigger school tries to limit VMI to only students and alumni voting. I was never a cadet but my Father was. He has shown extreme loyalty to his school and has rounded up several people (including me and I've pulled in some of my friends) to vote each hour for VMI.
@alexwolf88 don't believe anybody is trying to rub this in at NC State at all. The continued voting actually indicates a respect to the larger school and acknowledges that they could still pull a big rally of the students. It also is an indicator of the strength and support VMI can pull from current and former cadets, their family, and friends.

Alex, I mean you no disrespect but "Bots", REALLY! On what basis do you make such a statement? You have no facts. All you do is raise doubt with nothing to substantiate your belief. Try this on for size. I personally have voted against NC State nearly 400 times using nothing other than the simple "once per hour per IP address" concept. Do you truly even know how a so called "Bot" works? I do and clearly the capacity that such technology could provide would far exceed the 3 to 1 ratio that VMI now enjoys. Why must so many people like you seek to find only the negative. YES, I am PASSIONATE about this school and yes I am guilty of even getting up multiple times in the night to cast multiple votes on multiple devices. You see the real reason we are trouncing NC State is thanks to WSU. They put up such a fight that in order to win, VMI had to pull out all the stops. The student body is heavily involved, decades of Alumni are rallied around this cause, the Parents and Families are putting forth maximum effort, we even have the support of a number of WSU fans who are voting for us out of respect for having been such a worthy opponent. So please, if you dispute our numbers, do so with numbers of your own. We welcome the spirited competition with a worthy foe and would much prefer it over this "lay down, play dead, and cry foul attitude". In short, we're proud of our school. Are you?

I kinda resented being called a BOT at first but then realized that, while I try to vote as often as I can, I fall short of the BOT standard so I can only strive to improve. Alex, these are two very fine schools and I dont think anyone on the VMI side is trying to "rub it in". The final result will come about because of a very well organized group of grads, students, family and friends of VMI and what it stands for who have simply decided to vote often for VMI

  • Mike Parish VMI'77 - 10 years ago

Was willing to stop at 77%, but would rather share, so keep those votes coming.

  • Rick H. VMI '75 - 10 years ago

Rah VA MIL!! Keydets keep the votes coming! Saw a comment that pointed to bots again. Sad that issue is still surfacing. Lots of Old Corps participation 40, 50, 60, 70's that has sparked a whole lot of camaraderie amongst VMI alums. Attended a semi pro football game years ago where the final score was 105 to 0. The winning team went from a passing game to a running game and still was putting points up on the board. The consistency of VMI's voting especially in the National Semi- Final round against Washington State University was phenomenal. Living in NC and being a VMI grad with a lot of NC State friends I was expecting a closer contest. In fact was hoping for either an NC State vs VMI contest which we have or a VMI vs VCU or VMI vs ECU in The National Finals. Never Say Die, That's The Spirit of VMI!!

  • There you go again - 10 years ago

Alex, you just don't get it.
No bots; just a lots of old alums with time on their hands.
Just look at all of the comments from the "old corps" (from the 50s, 60s, & 70s).
Add them to the current cadets who vote early (they all get up at 0700) and often, and there's a big number.

  • alexwolf88 - 10 years ago

Congrats VMI fans. You could stop voting all the way until Friday and NC state still won't catch up. Now with that said your fans can turn off their BOTS now or do you really want to rub this in.

  • Bud lite - 10 years ago

Other than VMI wining the best thing to come out of this contest is getting to know the Ashington State tans. What Class Act they are. Go Cougs!

  • Rick H. VMI '75 - 10 years ago

Fans of both sides continue voting for your school. However if you have not voted in The Elections taking place today Please take time out and go to the Polls!

  • MissRed - 10 years ago

Hey VMI! Coug here showing love. Since you've got this vote handled, could you help us Cougs out? You must know by now that the best QB in college football, WSU's own Connor Halliday had a season ending injury Saturday. He's up for the Golden A award and fan voting will be a factor on selecting the winner. We want to overwhelm the odds in CH's favor. Please follow this link. You can vote once a day.

Personally, I like this percentage (79) for the win .

  • The Officer of the Day - 10 years ago

    ATTENTION IN BARRACKS!
The time is now 0010. There will be a 60,000 vote lead, right away!

BTW: In the last round (vs. WSU), VMI reached 82,000 votes early Tuesday morning, just like this round. However, I doubt that we will get 100,000 over the next 4 days. Really no need this time.

  • Sweet Revenge-et tu, Gerald Allen? - 10 years ago

Gerald Allen, Gerald Allen, Gerald Allen...

I noticed your incendiary remark about VMI's logo ,
just now, when screening the comments after a
    hiatus period of several days.

My, my my - what you wouldn't do, or say, to inflame
the VMI supporters. There is no depth to your rancor,
I suspect. No breath to your intelligence either, but
that is a different argument entirely.

On the other hand, I am comforted by the fact that
EVERY time you look at your pay stub (You ARE employed,
aren't you?) - 6.20% of your pay (that would be the FICA
deduction) is coming to ME/US. Insult us all you want,
we're KEEPING the money, and will do so as long as WE
live. If YOU die a natural, or - hopefully, horrible - death,
we'll just get it from someone else. We WIN, regardless,
YOU lose. What sweet justice to inflict on a total loser
like you. Please, work hard, and prosper. The more you
make, the more WE get. No,we are NOT communists.
we're just a powerful block of voting Geezers. Sad, for you,
    isn't it?

  • Voting Patterns - VMI vs. NCSU...and, the Ratline - 10 years ago

The voting patterns, as mentioned in previous comments, have
been pretty set since last Thursday - NCSU averages about
    1 vote/minute, day-and night, VMI averages 3 votes/minute at
night, and from 8-16 votes/minute from 7 am to 10 pm.
(Some of us, with little else to do, HAVE been keeping score !!).

There are about 5880 minutes left in the contest. That would
project to about a total of 28,000 votes for NCSU - about
the same effort they mustered against Indiana-Purdue-Ft Wayne
to get to the Finals. This one has BEEN over for five days, it
is just going to take four more days to count coup.

MY question concerns the 2014 VMI Rats. They got out of
the Ratline for the Furman victory last weekend. Will they
be shown a modicum of mercy for ANY assistance they
provided in wining the Connecticut NCAA "Coolest Logo"
    contest?

Would that the Corps - and the First Class Leadership -
would think that an appropriate reward. As I recall,
EVERY VMI victory was a cause for celebration.

Me, I might have TWO beers late Friday evening to
celebrate the win. Sa-weet. Bring it, NCSU, if you think
you can muster 25,000 votes PER DAY, until Friday,
11/7/2014, to "Maybe" take the win.

In the bonds of VMI - Class of 1970.

  • John VMI '90 - 10 years ago

Some of us didn't need our copy of the Blue Book, as we'd broken most of the rules anyway. I pretty much knew the BB cover to cover...I only had about 4 "non post confinement" weeks my second class year.

You see, the Dayloight-Savings-Time-Change ALWAYS fools some people.

In your case, the earlier approach of twilight, and darkness, probably kept
you from crawling back under your customary rock.

  • Gerald Allen - 10 years ago

VMI has a logo that looks like a large penetrated vagina. That's why they are winning.

  • bahcoug - 10 years ago

WSU fan stopping by to lend some support to VMI, but never mind, looks like you've got this covered :)
    Go Cougs!

  • Ron - 10 years ago

In the end, the poll means nothing BUT STILL one of the few chances for a small school to take on giants and beat them. As all have learned up to this point, VMI has the most loyal alumni in the nation, a bond that was forged in a school like no other. Go Big Red!

  • trnmstr78 - 10 years ago

    NCSU Cheerleader -

Thanks for alerting VMI to the expected surge in voting.
Is is scheduled to start at sunrise on Sunday?

Well, thanks for spotting VMI a 46,000 vote lead through
Saturday night, as we'll take every advantage we can
muster, or you can bestow. If VMI STOPPED voting,
and NCSU continued at it's current rate/minute -
NCSU could EASILY take the logo championship by
    3 December 2014 !!

Oh, mentioning Goliath, slaying David, may NOT have
been the best way to rally the troops. The VMI people
were already reveling in the reverse image. THEY may
just pick up MORE stones, if Goliath begins to stir
    aggresively.

  • NCSU Cheerleader - 10 years ago

NCSU we gave em' the first week just to make em' feel good about themselves. Now it's time to show em' what we got. Fire away! Time for Goliath to CRUSH David!!!!

My cousin Ed Biggs from Wichita Falls Tx was VMI class of '44. Glad to see someone from his era posting!

  • Charles Gardner '74 - 10 years ago

    Great story WAE

  • WAE-VMI '46 - 10 years ago

In 1943, I was the oldest (18) and heaviest (188) member of the Keydet varsity football squad. I was third string and got into two games (Davidson and NCS - we beat Davidson) Had one BR at starting fullback and the rest were rats.). After the war, VMI had three grads in the NFL including the fabulous Joe Muha and two of my BR's. This was all before college football turned professional. Our arch rival had always been VPI who voted to abandon NCAA football "for the duration so we played the Maryland Terps on Thanksgiving in a blinding Roanoke snowstorm and lost 8-6 on a safety which has never been found. We wore the "spider logo" but then it was called the VMI "Monogram" There were 137 upperclassmen in barracks, the rest were fighting the Axis. If school loyalty and affection were an Olympic sport, we'd have a Gold Medal every four years! - GO BIG RED!

  • Vote Counter '70 - 10 years ago

Actually, the NCSU effort effectively petered out between 5-6 pm,
yesterday, 30 October 2014. The two sides had been voting at
an effective rate of 8 VMI to 3 NCSU votes. They may rally, but
for the last 1 1/4 days the voting has been between 7 to 8 votes/minute
to about 1 1/2 votes/minute for NCSU. Minute-by-minute, the VMI is
driving the NCSU vote total down to 20% of the total vote. Considering
the anxiety the UVU and WSU mass voting caused, with the lead
swapping back and forth - hour-by-hour - this is not a "throw caution
to the wind black diamond race downhill", but more like gently
schussing down the beginner's course at the ski resort.

Even at the reduced rates, VMI will have about a 40,000 vote plurality
going into the weekend. While the VMI voters are "easing up" on
NCSU, they are alert for late vote surges. "Sergeant of the Guard,
Post Number One !!" will be sounded early enough to head off
any incipient challenges. We're looking to march, not sprint,
to the final victory. Then, what?

Why, we'll declare ourselves the victors of all Connecticut sporting
polls, that's WHAT !! Not as good as winning TWO games in the
2014 Southern Football Conference, but, good enough.

  • MikeC VMI'68 - 10 years ago

There're still voting at about the same % of votes. Both have slowed a bit.

  • Charles Gardner VMI'74 - 10 years ago

Is it my imagination or are NC State's numbers barely budging?

  • MikeC VMI'68 - 10 years ago

    @VMI WNB

Ah, the "Blue Book". Yes, some of us broke the regulations more than others, and often paid the price in demerits, confinement and penalty tours. I actually have a blue book around here someplace, probably with my Rat Bible. They revised it and printed new copies my Second Class year, so when they issued the new ones and collected the old ones I simply asked if I could keep the one from my room.

  • V40M68I99 - 10 years ago

@invictuslux i can not understand why you would give your vote to the opponent. If you are for VMI vote for VMI if NC State vote for NC State.

I live in NC but I graduated from VMI. VMI gets my vote without a doubt until the end. and there is a lot more students at NCstate a little premature to give away your votes.

  • VMI WNB - 10 years ago

    @ InvictusLux
If you gave your word that you would continue to participate and vote for VMI, then it would become a matter of personal honor. But if not, it's your vote and time -- do with it what you will. I wouldn't agree with the action you proposed, but it certainly would not be a matter of honor. "Charitable actions" can sometimes be characterized as being "honorable". And I agree, but in my mind, separate and distinct from personal honor.
The rules and regulations of the Institute (aka The Blue Book) were known by all of us. Yet we knowingly violated those rules (some of us more than others!). The personal honor involvement was assuming responsibility for one's actions when called in to answer a report.

  • MikeC VMI'68 - 10 years ago

    @InvictusLux

There is no slaughter rule in HS football, at least not around here, beyond keeping the clock running after going out of bounds or incomplete passes to speed up the end of the game.

In any event, it's a bit early to celebrate. NC State has 34,000 current students and this game is less than half over. We've only been voting for four days and have eight more to go. If they wake up and start voting they could easily come back and trounce VMI. I wouldn't back off when there's still a lot of time left in the second quarter.

  • NCSUPasserby - 10 years ago

    @OldGrad'65,

Sir you have a very good point. When it comes to characters and honor, action does speak louder than words. I appreciate the reminder.

    @Ed Trinkle '70

I just want to thank you for your story. Those last few lines really resonate with me. I truly appreciate it. Much respect.

  • InvictusLux - 10 years ago

VMI is trouncing NC State. At this point I need an opinion on the honor code BR's . It is considered a violation to throw points by either not showing up to vote or by showing up and "accidentally" clicking on NC State a few times just to make it look more sporting a contest and less a slaughter? There might be some obscure mercy/slaughter rule that kicks in at some threshold of voting volume that locks out the prevailing and dominating college (VMI) so to save face and avoid humiliation and bullying law suits; just like they do in regular High School level football play that's been wussified....
