Trent Miles (Georgia State)

The ugly truth is that the players do not respect Coach Miles. No matter what impressive schemes Coach Miles may have for the future of the Georgia State football program, the attitude the players (and his assistant coaches) have towards him will not drastically change for the better. He is said to be tyrannical, stubborn, bipolar, and highly unlikeable. Additionally, him and his coaching staff do not have a recruiting presence in the Southeast region of the high school football realm. A new coaching staff is needed, preferably one that has roots in the South, and a combination of junior college football players and elite high school football players is also what will be needed to make an impact on this program. With the new Athletic Director in place, this is an ideal time for that change. Bring in a coach that will bring hope and respect, not frustration and a lack of likeability. I am disappointed to see the number of votes to keep this coach. At least get a new Defensive Coordinator -- our offense is what has kept us in (most) games.

Since GaStateGrad wanted to call out a correction to my post, I will respond. Trent Miles was introduced as the new Head Coach on December 3rd, 2012. Signing day for the first class of Freshman he would coach at Georgia State was on February 6th, 2013. So technically he did have 2 whole months to try and attract new recruits above and beyond whatever scholarships had already been offered to prospects by the previous coaching staff during the spring, summer, and fall of 2012. Realistically, it is more likely that the first Freshman class Coach Trent Miles dealt with was primarily composed of recruits that were not of his specific choosing. His first full recruiting season was for students who joined the team this year. The focus of that recruiting, while trying to balance things for the team overall, was mostly focused on the offense. With a couple of exceptions, the games this year have proven out the success of that effort when compared to the team's performance last year. This year's recruiting will likely continue to build depth overall, while focusing on improvement on the defense side of things. So next year will be an improvement over this year, and the following year an improvement over that. I stick by my initial statement that two more years are needed to see what the true impact of Coach Miles on the program ends up being. I suspect many current naysayers will change their tunes.

Actually, this is Trent's second recruiting class not his first as was stated by GaStateDad. He is in over his head and has lost the respect of his team. How about bringing in someone with Georgia credentials - say Mike Bobo from UGa. Mike can bring a few of his friends for a dream staff of Robert Edwards - running back coach, Joe Hamilton - Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterback Coach, Heinz Ward - Wide Receiver/ Tight End Coach, and there are many more young coaches that know Georgia just waiting to get a chance. Trent Miles is not right for this program. Trent Miles needs to go. Hopefully, the new AD will have the same opinion. Its amazing the the new AD has not come to Trent's defense. It makes you wonder.

He deserves at least two more years to see if he and his staff is capable of turning this dumpster fire around. The jury is still out, IMHO.

Someone has hacked into the polling if Miles is getting "keep" votes.

Fire him, he is awful for the state of Georgia in WAY over his head

Blaming the man for the situation he was thrust into, without giving him time to make the needed changes to get things on the right track is just the kind of impulsive overeating that is way too prevalent in today's world of instant gratification. He is playing with his first recruiting class. The decision to move so quickly into the FBS from the bad start in FCS play was made before he came on board. He has shown in his previous position that he has the capability to turn a program into winners, but it does not happen overnight. Let him have 2 more years to show results. If things have not improved by then, then you may feel justified in calling for his termination. Until then, just be a fan (not a bandwagon rider) and support the team as they all (players, coaches, students) go through this rough time of transition and development.

How can this man be kept with a record of 1 win to D2 team in 2 years. He will probably go 1 win and 11 loses this year along. Trent Miles must go and go in a hurry.
