Who do you think should captain Australia against India if Michael Clarke is unavailable?

Steve Smith is the best choice especially if supported by Brad Haddin as vice captain. This would give the ideal blend of youth and experience and if successful place Australian cricket in good hands for many years to come. Dave Warner could be too much of a loose cannon at this point; Shane Watson does not show that leadership charisma and George Bailey's position is problematic at best.

The selectors have to go for youth and skill, so not Clarke, Watson or Hadden and definitely not a Warner or Finch type player, so yes go with Smith hes young but I think will make a good future Captain.

For a long time I was a Steve Smith hater, then for a while I supported him ironically. But I have to say that since about the tour of India last year he's won me over, on multiple occasions being the only batsman to show real fight in otherwise dire situations.

Give him the cap I say, see if it fits.

Haddin has been excellent, but his form cannot guarantee him a place in the team. He is, at best, in a career twilight.
Watson is too inconsistent, and is not a leader.
Smith has promise, but his batting is yet to be proven that it is consistent at test level.
Look forward.....Marsh has talent. His batting is above all others at this time. He has already been a successful leader of an Australian team. He has obvious leadership qualities. Certainly worth a gamble.

Hadden is the logical choice. He is the senior member of the side and is proficient in all facets of the game, a fighter in the Australian tradition, not flamboyant, sort of in the Allan Border mould. It could be argued that his days are numbered but, in the circumstances, he seems the right man for the job, with maybe Smith next in line in a couple of years. Hadden's place in the team is secure with his keeping and batting better than ever. Warner's head is too big for the job.

Wade. Vic captain. Experience. Cancer survivor. I am amazed he didn't get the call sooner

Give Peter Siddle a go!!! Fast bowlers seem to never even be considered for the role, but Siddle as a temporary stand-in would be perfect if both Clarke and Haddin were out. He's a long-serving member of the team and has been as committed as anyone to the cause ahead of personnal success.
