Both are great players for different reasons. Kobe is by far the better athlete. Dirk however is a better all around basketball player in my opinion. He is a better leader, a much better shooter, and unselfish with the ball. Kobe is a great slasher and a better defender but like many will point out, Dirk has done more with less. No way Kobe gets a team with Diop and Dampier as Centers to the Finals like Dirk did.

No "facts" here. It's a value system. Some like ESPN highlights, others like team play.
Dirk at his peak was better than Kobe at his peak. Both players had to grow into their greatness. But Kobe never carried his team to a title the way Dirk did with absolute "refuse to lose" ice-cold clutch play. Dirk was at the top of 4th quarter clutch play at his peak. Kobe's not bad there...but he never reached the level that Dirk did in 2011.
Kobe never got close to winning without the best coach of all time, Dirk got to the Finals with two coaches...and should have won two rings if not for the NBA refs (don't deny that). But really, you don't count rings to determine individual greatness. That's a TEAM accomplishment.
So it's really about who is easier to build a winning team around...and that's Dirk.
