Are you disappointed that hip-hop has yet to deliver a national protest song that captures the mood in America?

the industry has taken rap right where they want it to be. Whatever makes money. You don't get any more public enemy songs or "Squeeze the Trigger" ice T cause they don't sell now a days. The youth in our community (black) have really lost their way or maybe us from that generation didn't do enough to teach hem about the struggle. Either way if it don't sell they probably won't release it.... Fight the Power!

I can't truly say that I'm surprised that hip hop community is silent. What can we really expect from a group of people who glorify the party lifestyle, misogyny, materialism/consumerism, low morals, drug and alcohol abuse, and violence?

I see too many young black men and women living lifestyles based on popular culture (that our so called 'stars' perpetuate) rather than a common sense and stable approach to life. You can't get a job shouting "Barbie B-----" with rainbow colored hair with an alternate personality in the real world. Since when did an 'alter ego' represent anything other than a mental illness?

The truth is that WE have got to change. WE will continue to be marginalized and killed in the streets if we don't start caring about how we carry ourselves, how we educate ourselves, and how we perpetuate stereotypes. We need more judges, lawyers, doctors, scientists, engineers, computer programmers, and executives than we do another rapper, singer, actor, or athlete. The silence from those quarters is indeed deafening, but what will we DO to drown out the silence? How will we change the paradigm?

It's definitely not going to happen by reality television, 'poppin Mollys', and singing/rapping about your ass.
